image 1883-97 Watermark Crown CA. Perforated Proofs. 1883 (23 Aug.) Appendix sheet (325x222mm.) headed "Jamaica Postage Stamps. Existing and proposed Scheme of Colours", bearing a set of nine values from ½d. to 5/- bracketed as "Existing colours" and ½d. to 6d. in new colours represented by perf. 12 trials, the ½ d. and 1d. bracketed as "Proposed colours, being those established by the International Postal Convention for these two values", the 2d. to 6d. "Proposed colours" and the existing 1/- to 5/- trio bracketed as "These colours cannot be improved upon". A magnificent showpiece. Photo
Note: The Proposed Scheme of Colours was submitted to the Crown Agents on the 23 August 1883, to bring them into line with the altered ½d. and 1d. stamp colours required by the International Postal Convention. It was approved by the Major General administering the Government of Jamaica on 27 November 1883, and the stamps were issued, on exhaustion of stocks in old colours, between 1885 and 1897 (Image1)
