"kingston" Early Datestamps. 1809 (5 May) double rate entire letter enclosing a Bill of Lading, headed "Langs Wharf", "per Diamond Frigate" to London and redirected to Hawick, variously rated and showing oval-framed "Ship Letter/Crown/jamaica" handstamp and, on reverse, a good strike of the "kingston" K1 horseshoe datestamp and two transit datestamps. A fine example of this rare "fleuron" adapted datestamp of which exceptionally few are known with Foster in his handbook only recording two, one of which is in the Jamaica Institute archive.
