Cat No: 251a/c var.
1905-11 Pictorials Crown/A Watermark Typographed 2d plum Perf 12½ Watermark Upright marginal pair from the top of the sheet with Double Perforations at top being an additional row of Perf 11 creating Irregular Compound Perforations 11x12½x12½x12½ as ACSC T43 (SG 251a/c var), well centred, large-part o.g. with minor gum-loss from where adhesion has been removed (not thinned) and a small hinge remainder in the margin, Cat $300+ for 'normal' compound perforations on sideways watermark stamps. [The ACSC does not list Watermark Upright in combination with compound perforations, stating in a footnote that "The existence of watermark upright...with compound perforations [is] unconfirmed". Watermark Upright is listed for regular Perf 12½ and Perf 11 stamps, where it is stated to comprise "approximately 5% of the total printing" and receives a premium of over three-times the price of Watermark Sideways stamps]
POSTAL FISCALS: 1888 'TAS' Watermark 2/6d lake SG F30 corner pair from the L/Rr of the sheet, untidy Hobart duplex cancels, Cat £200+, for singles. A very scarce postally-used multiple. [This pair shows both the haphazard plate-laying and the unusual plate format with partial impressions included in the lower margin; the left-hand unit is placed 2mm higher than the right-hand one, resulting in its design being cut by perforations at the top with the part-impression appearing at base]
