image 1843-48 Cantonal Issues Geneva (Genf) 1843 Diptych 5c+5c black/olive-green setenant pair Mi 1 (SG G1) comprising two single stamps expertly repaired & rejoined resulting in a pair of very fine appearance with margins close to good & outer framelines except at left, rosette cancels in red, Cat €40,000 (£49,000) as a pair or €16,000 (£20,000) as two singles. A very attractive example of this rare item. Emil Rellstab (1988) & Pascal Scheller (2010) Certificates as Zumstein 4L+4R or Yvert 4 respectively.

An attractive example of the world's first embossed, first tricoloured and first 'Bird' stamp. One of the most technically important of all Classic issues. Pascal Scheller Certificate (2010) as Yvert No 8 states - translated - "genuine, with faults".

A rare origin-destination piece in this period. [Mail from Victoria to Switzerland is common but we recall only one other 1850s item from Switzerland to Victoria]
