Adelaide GPO: Beaded CDS 'GPO ADELAIDE/JU9/82/S-A' largely very fine strike on ½d Wrapper front with 'OS' overprint to Naracoorte, a few tonespots. Previously unrecorded: rated RRRRR. As Handbook #F2 & stated to be the only recorded example with dateslugs. [The Handbook illustration is partial only, indicating that this is an extremely rare marking in any state]
Adelaide Railway: squared-circle 'A[DE]LAIDE RLY STN/AU16/02/SA' very fine strike on Small 6d blue. This pattern is unrecorded in the Handbook: rated RRRRR.
New Luxemburg: squared-circle 'NEW LUXEMBURG/SE9/95/S.A' very fine strike on 2d orange & another slightly doubled-strike alongside on front to Woodside, minor blemishes. Rated RRR. PO 1.8.1895; closed 22.10.1896. [Goldmining]
No 2 Lock: 'No 2 LOC[K]/20JE27/SA' (RO period) superb strike on 1½d Canberra. Underrated at R. RO 7.10.1924; PO 1.7.1927; closed 24.12.1927. [A very fine 1926 example sold at the Prestige auction of 12.6.2010 for $268]
No 3 Lock (1): 'No 3 LOCK/4JL24/SA' (LRD) very fine strike on KGV 1½d red. Underrated at R: recorded for only 18 months. RO only 1.8.1922; closed 13.9.1924. [A very fine 1926 example sold at the Prestige auction of 12.6.2010 for $244]
Parrotts Hill: 24mm 'PARROTTS HILL/AU-/1869/S.A' largely very fine strike on 'TEN PENCE' in Blue on 9d yellow SG 59. Rated RR. PO 1.5.1867; closed 1.4.1880.
Tod River: 'TOD RIVER/2MR22/S.A' untidy but obvious strike on KGV 2d orange. Rated RRRR. PO 2.2.1920; closed 14.11.1922. [Reservoir construction site 28km N of Port Lincoln. NB: Not to be confused with Todd River in the Northern Territory]
1908 Scenic Issue 1d 'CHAMPION/SHORTHORN' (bull) in purple-brown used at Adelaide with message from a sick child "...Doctor was wheeling me on the path...I tumbled out and hurt my foot..." The Holy Grail of South Australian postal stationery: only five examples recorded & only the second example we have offered in 40 years. [Nelson Eustis' used example sold in 2003 for $1165]
1908 Scenic Issue 1d 'WORLD'S RECORD 1992lbs DRESSED' (bull) in grey-blue, message headed "Temora School" & used with 'MONARTO' cds. Scarce. [Nelson Eustis' used example sold in 2003 for $333]
Imperfs comprising London Printings 1d, 2d single & superb strip of 4 and 6d x6 including a rejoined strip of 3; Adelaide Printings 2d single & strip of 5 (a bit cut-into), 6d slate-blue & 1/- orange x2 (one with 1858 cds in blue), all but the second 2d strip with full margins & very fine, Cat £3200+.

1855 London Printings imperforate plate proof blocks of 4 on ungummed unwatermarked paper comprising 2d in black, 6d in blue marginal from the left of the sheet, and 1/- in black marginal from the right of the sheet with a few wrinkles, one 1/- unit just shaved at the base otherwise with full margins. (3 blocks)
1860-69 Second Roulettes 'TEN PENCE' in Black on 9d yellow with the Surcharge Inverted SG 37a, 'GPO ADELAIDE/OC13/69/SA' cds, Cat £7500. An iconic stamp. [Nineteen examples - including one on cover & Peter Jaffé's pair - have been recorded. Most have significant faults. This is one of the finest examples of this most famous of South Australian errors]
1867-70 Perf 11½-12½xRoulettes 'TEN PENCE' in Blue on 9d yellow Printed on Both Sides SG 59a, 'KADINA/ JU19/69/SA' cds, Cat £1300. Very scarce. [The 'Besancon' (I) example sold for SFr1028] Illustration above Lot 1434.
1871 V/Crown 4d dull lilac SG 111 horizontal strip of 3 with Watermark 'POSTAG...' across the three units, the central stamp with a Pre-Printing Paper Fold, 'GPO ADELAIDE/AP12/72/SA', Cat £975++. A rare multiple, especially with the marginal watermark.

1883-99 Bantam ½d imperf plate proof in green affixed to a GPO memorandum (133x207mm) with printed date 'June 12th 1882' & stating '...five specimens of the new...Halfpenny Postage Stamps, which have been issued during the present month' & inscribed to "The Postmaster-General/Cuba", faint blemishes. [Gibbons give the release date of SG 182 as 1.3.1883. This advice indicates the issue was 9 months earlier] The illustration is above Lot 1435.
1883-99 Bantam Perf 10 ½d brown horizontal pair Imperf Between SG 182a additionally with evidence of Double Perfs at Left, rounded corner at L/L, large-part o.g., Cat £1500+. [The very fine 'Besancon' II pair sold for SFr1452]
1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' Perf 11½-12½ £5 brown SG 205, very fine strike of 'GPO ADELAIDE/OC26/5 45P/S A - [S AUSTRALIA]' duplex (Type DpxT-24 with 25mm datehead; 'R' & Year slugs omitted), Cat £1100+ for CTO. A very rare stamp with postal cancellation (and almost certainly cancelled per favor). David Brandon Certificate (1992).
1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' Perf 11½-12½ £15 silver SG 207a marginal block of 4 from the base of the sheet, CTO with the base of the Melbourne implement that is blank at the base, full unmounted o.g., Cat £10,000+. Superb! Ex Australia Post Archives Sale 1 (1987) & Ed Williams: sold at the Prestige auction of 26.1.2002 for $8400. [This was the highest denomination block released by Australia Post. It is highly unlikely any other blocks of this or the £20 exist]
1892 (c.) 2½d stamp-size original artwork in India ink & Chinese white on thin card (31x36mm) endorsed "Finis Coronat Opus" at the base. A beautiful & superb essay. ['Finis Coronat Opus' {= "the end crowns the work"} was the nom-de-plume of Melbourne artist Maximilian Tannenberg who worked for the printers Troedel & Co]
1904-11 Thick 'POSTAGE' Crown/SA 9d rose-red marginal single from the top of the sheet Imperforate at Top ACSC #S50b, indistinct cds cancellation, Cat $3000 (2004). [The ACSC states that only one example is recorded. It is illustrated in the ACSC and appears to adjoin the current stamp at left]
REVENUES: Duty Stamp range with KEVII including 2/- x2 2/6d 5/- 10/- 15/- & £1 and 1916-62 values to £2 plus £10 & a few Surcharges, Swine Stamp Duty x7 to 10/- & Cattle Stamp Duty x5 to 5/-; plus 'The Revenue Stamps of SA' by Martin Walker.

376 Mile East-West Railway: '376 MILE EW RLY/24OC18/S.A' fine strike on KGV 1d red on Shierlaw front. Rated RRRR: the only recorded 'cover'. PO 19.9.1916; closed 1918. [On the site of Barton. Handbook states closed May 1918. Several later strikes to 26OC18 are recorded]
447 Mile Quarry Trans-Australian Railway: '447 MILE QUARRY TRANS AUST RLY/23SE38/SA' several poor overlapping strikes & a largely very fine strike on the reverse on commercial cover to Sydney with provisional R label endorsed "447 Mile/TAR", minor blemishes. Rated RRRR. [Near the site of Watson. John Bell's similar but defective cover sold at the Prestige auction of 14.11.2014 for $1223]
East West Railway Construction Car: 'E W RLY CONSTRN [CAR]/15AP15/[SA]' very fine large-part strike on KGV 1d red x2. Rated RRRR. PO 17.10.1914; closed 3.12.1915. [Slightly more complete than John Booker's equally fine strike that sold at our auction of 1.3.2020 for $455]
East West Railway Head Camp (1): 'E W RY HEAD CAMP/10JU1915/STH AUSTRALIA' very fine large-part strike on KGV 1d red. Rated RRRR. PO 15.3.1915; closed 3.12.1915. [Several other examples seen are all light part-strikes. One of these sold at a 2004 postal auction for $525]
East West Railway TPO: 'E W RLY TPO/--PM 8SE23/[STH A]USTRALIA' very fine strike on 3d Kangaroo. Rated RRRRR: by far the superior of the two recorded strikes. PO c.1917; replaced by Trans-Australian Railway Pay Train c -.3.1924.
Express Railway: 'EXPRESS RL[Y UP]/23JA24/S.A' largely superb strike on KGV 1½d green (issued in 1924). Rated RRRRR. [This is an enigma. The Handbook states that the Express Railway closed 30.9.1917. However, this example from 7 years later, and another dated 25JL18, suggest the closing date is an error, or temporary only. As an alternative, it's possible the Express cds was placed into service on the Terowie Railway, which was the only TPO still operating in 1924. It closed 31.8.1928]
Kadina Railway: framed 'RAILWAY S[A]/AU3/80/K.A.R.' superb strike on 2d orange. Unrecorded in the Handbook: rated RRRRR. PO -.2.1880; closed 30.9.1917. [This marking predates the first cds listed in the Handbook by 4 months. Presumably 'KAR' = Kadina-Adelaide Railway?? See 'The Bulletin' of the BSAP March 2020]
Northern Extension Railway: '[N] EX RAILWAY/FE9/71/S.A' light but obvious strike on DLR 2d. Rated RRRRR: sold at the Prestige auction of 25.1.2003 for $1188. [No examples recorded on cover]
Northern Extension Railway: 'N EX RAILWAY/FE16/71/S.A' fine & complete strike on DLR 2d. Rated RRRRR: sold at the Prestige auction of 24.1.2004 for $1245. [No examples recorded on cover]
Railway: 25mm unframed 'P O RAILWAY/DE17/1867/ 2 /S-A' (Gang '2' upright) very fine b/s on cover to Adelaide with Rouletted 2d with poor 'KAPUNDA' cds & a better strike alongside. Rated RRRRR. [This is #UF3-2, which clearly shows a hyphen & not a dot between the S & A]
Railway: 26mm (not 25mm as per the Handbook) unframed 'P O RAILWAY/JA20/1864/ 2 /S.A' (Gang '2' sideways) superb b/s on cover to Adelaide with Rouletted 2d with poor numeral of 'SHEA-OAK-LOG' (fine cds at L/L), opened-out for display. Rated RRRR. Ex Roy Holland. [This is #UF3-3, which clearly shows the dot & not a hyphen between the S & A]
Railway: framed '[RAIL]WAY P O/NO8/[81]/S-A' partly very fine transit b/s on cover to Scotland with 6d tied by poor strike of the 'LEIGHTON' cds - rated RRR - & a better strike alongside, presumably overweight & taxed with 'DEFICIENT POSTAGE ("6")/FINE ("6") 1/-' h/s of Adelaide (?) & British '1/-' h/s, minor peripheral faults. Unrecorded in the Handbook: rated RRRRR.
Railway: framed 'RAILWAY P . O/AU15/83' - remarkably without 'SA' - largely very fine transit b/s on cover to Huntingdonshire with 6d tied by fine strike of the framed 'REDRUTH' cds - rated R - & a better strike alongside, the Railway cds partly overstruck with 'ST NEOTS/SP26/83' arrival b/s, some staining but quite presentable. Unrecorded in the Handbook: rated RRRRR.

[Sold at the Prestige auction of 14.11.2014 for $3561. A similar example sold at the Prestige auction of 12.5.2007. Both stamps appear to be Imperforate]
