Watermark Errors 'AUSTRLAIA' for 'AUSTRALIA' blocks of 4 comprising 3d upper-left Reading Upwards, 3d lower-right (missing the lower margin) Reading Downwards, 4d upper-left Reading Upwards (the side margin largely severed and rejoined), and 4d lower-right Reading Downwards, Cat $2500. A complete 'set', that is extremely challenging to complete; these are much scarcer than the 'SUOTH' watermark errors. [See JRW (Bill) Purves at page 100]

Double Perforation Errors selection of marginal pieces comprising 3d at base, 3d at right (two different shades), 4d pair at base (unlisted in the ACSC), 6d non-marginal single at top, 6d vertical strip of 4 at right, 8d block of 4 at base with Official Repair, 9d at right, 1/- at right, 1/- horizontal pair at base, and 1/- non-marginal pair between, a few hinge remainders but generally very fine to superb, Cat $3600+, for singles plus the unlisted 4d pair. A very scarce group.

Double Perforation Errors comprising 3d at right with 'YORKETOWN' cds, 8d at right with 'PARCEL POST...' cds, 8d at base with boxed 'LATE FEE' handstamp (toned perfs), 1/- at right with Adelaide cds, and 2/6d at right - unlisted in the ACSC - with 'RUNDLE STREET' squared-circle (remarkably for a used item with Official Repair still in place), Cat $950, plus the unlisted 2/6d. (5)
Sheet Number blocks of 4 from the upper-right corners of the sheets 3d to 2/6d complete (the 9d is a pair only; the 8d & 10d are Crown/SA) plus Crown/SA 10/-, most units are unmounted, Cat $2600++, for mounted pairs.

THREE PENCE: 3d pale olive-green SG 298 marginal horizontal pair from the base of the upper pane Imperforate between the Stamps & the Gutter, Adelaide cds of MR23/07. Unlisted in the ACSC. Ex William Frazer, being the left-hand pair from his rejoined strip of 4, being the only recorded examples. [In the Frazer sale, the strip was incorrectly listed as being from the Crown/SA issue]

THREE PENCE: 3d pale olive-green Perf 11 ACSC S37 (SG 298e) horizontal pair, 'COWELL/MR2/10/S-A' squared-circles, Cat $3000+ (£1400+), for singles. Only two used pairs, and no larger multiples, have been recorded. A similar pair sold at our auction of 24.10.2009 for $2680.

THREE PENCE: 3d pale olive-green Perf 11 ACSC S37 (SG 298e) corner block of 4 from the lower-right of the sheet, the lower units with an Additional Row of Horizontal Perfs Misplaced above the Value Tablet and Corrected with Another Line of Perf 11 in the correct position at the base S37b, some minor perf separation/reinforcing, Cat $9000++, for singles (£4000++, for normal singles). Ex Rev James Mursell.
Only four such blocks were recorded, but the ACSC illustrates a lower pair, indicating that at least one of the blocks has been broken-up. Absent from the Michael Blake, 'Besancon' and Gary Diffen collections. Ed Williams' two normal mint singles sold for $1415 and $2265 respectively.

THREE PENCE: 3d pale olive-green Perf 11 with with an Additional Row of Horizontal Perfs Misplaced above the Value Tablet and Corrected with Another Line of Perf 11 in the correct position at the base ACSC S37b (SG 298e var) and with Official Repair (that was not applied to the mint block), light '[COWE]LL/MR--/10/S-A' squared-circle, Cat $1750 (£700+). The ACSC states that an unspecified number of "used stamps showing this double perforation also exist". Absent from the Michael Blake, 'Besancon' and Gary Diffen collections.

SIX PENCE: Perf 12 6d blue-green SG 300 marginal horizontal pair from the base of the sheet Imperforate between the Stamps & the Margin ACSC S43b, faint horizontal bend, lightly mounted, Cat $2000+, for singles. Gary Diffen recorded four mint singles, four pairs & a strip of 4, several of which have faults. His single - "hinge remnants and tiny thin" - sold for £385. Jeff Harris' two singles sold for $670 and $725 respectively.
SIX PENCE: Perf 12½ 6d blue-green vertical pair Imperforate Between ACSC S44b (SG 300ab), repaired tear affects both units, Cat $2000 (£3750). Gary Diffen records ten pairs and a block of 4.

NINE PENCE: 9d deep dull rose with an Additional Row of Horizontal Perfs Misplaced above the Value Tablet and Corrected with Another Line of Perf 12 in the correct position at the base ACSC S52var (SG 302var), hinge remainders. Rare: unrecorded in the ACSC, and absent from Gary Diffen's collection.
NINE PENCE: 9d lake-rose Perf 11 ACSC S50 (SG 302f), well centred, light indistinct cancels, Cat $3500 (£1500). A very rare stamp: the ACSC states "six examples [all used] have been recorded, including a pair..." William Frazer's pair sold for £1800.
NINE PENCE: 9d dull lake block of 4 Imperforate Between Horizontally S52ba (SG 302a), minor gum disturbance, Cat $4000+ (£5000+), for two pairs. The ACSC states that two pairs, two blocks of 4 & a block of 8 (4x2) have been recorded. We have recorded the following results, all for pairs: Ron Butler for £1080; our auction of 24.5.2008 for $2210; Jeff Harris for $2095; and Gary Diffen for £1440.

NINE PENCE: 9d dull lake marginal block of 4 from the base of the sheet Imperforate Between Horizontally and at the Base S52b (SG 302a var), a couple of light bends, Cat $4000+ (£5000+), for two pairs. Gary Diffen's similar pair from the upper pane - imperf between & above the gutter - sold for £1560.
The ACSC entry combines the two variants. From the upper pane, two pairs have been recorded; from the lower pane, this block contains the only recorded examples.
NINE PENCE: 9d dull lake corner block of 6 (3x2) from the lower-left of the sheet comprising two horizontal strips of 3 Imperforate Between & at Left S52bb (SG 302aa), light vertical bend across the central units, ink-stain on the reverse at lower-left just shows through the face, Cat $10,000+ (£13,000+), for two strips of 3. One of the great error pieces of the early Federal Period.
The ACSC records only this block of 6 and a strip of 3 but Gary Diffen noted a second strip that is "badly toned". His strip of 3 - also with light vertical bend - sold for £3840.
