ORIGINAL ARTWORK: Original handpainted stamp-size essay for the Kangaroo design in India ink with Chinese white highlights & simulated perforations, the Queen's portrait being a printed insert, on thin card (68x85mm), endorsed "JULY 12th 92" at upper-right and handstamped '19OCT92' at upper-left, a little soiled. Unique. The 'Besancon' (I) earlier version - with the Queen's head also hand-painted - sold for SFr1800.

ORIGINAL ARTWORK: Original handpainted stamp-size essay for the Coat of Arms design in India ink with Chinese white highlights on thin card (24x27mm), closed tear intrudes on the top of the Queen's head. Beautiful & unique. Illustrated in 'The De La Rue Collection' at page 6049. The similar 'Besancon' (I) artwork for the 2½d value sold for SFr1800.
DIE PROOFS: 2½d die proof in black on highly-surfaced card (92x60mm) handstamped '14JAN93' in blue at upper-left & 'AFTER/HARDENING' at upper-right. Superb.
DIE PROOFS: 2½d die proof in black on highly-surfaced card reduced to stamp-size & affixed to piece (67x55mm) from the printers day book, endorsed "Jan 24/240 leads" in black & "April 4 93" in rosine.

PLATE PROOFS: 2½d imperforate colour trials on gummed watermarked paper, matching blocks of 12 (6x2) in seven different colours from the base of the right-hand panes each with Plate Number '1' at lower-right & pencilled notations at the corners, some minor soiling in the margins but generally superb with most units being unmounted. Sir Gawaine Baillie's six similar blocks of 4 sold for $640.

Sir Gawaine Baillie's five similar blocks of 8 (4x2) sold for $1280.
