TWO SHILLINGS & SIXPENCE: 2/6d bright violet SG 195a upper-left corner pair with Plate Number '1' and Value/Sheet Number '2/6 000469' in Green, large-part o.g. with both units being unmounted, Cat £220++, for mounted singles. Superb. The only recorded '2/6' value/sheet number piece: see Ed Williams at page 24 & illustrated by him at page 15. [The sheet number proves it is from the first printing; the Gibbons listing suggests this shade is from a later printing]
TWO SHILLINGS & SIXPENCE: 2/6d dull violet SG 195a lower-left corner pair with Plate Number '1' and Value/Sheet Number '1d 595003' in Vermilion, a few separated/reinforced perfs at left, large-part o.g., Cat £220++, for normal singles. The only recorded '1d' value/sheet number piece: see Ed Williams at page 24. [This is from the third printing; the Gibbons listing suggests this shade is from an earlier printing]
TWO SHILLINGS & SIXPENCE: 2/6d violet SG 195a plus 3d SG 192a on cover to Germany with 'REGD ADELAIDE/25MA09/STH AUSTRALIA' cds & very early usage of provisional registration label with manuscript "Adelaide", central fold small fault at the base & minor blemishes. Rare albeit philatelic franking, unusually for registered mail with no backstamps. [Ed Williams at page 27 states that from 24.10.1902 Postage & Revenue stamps were "demonetised only for fiscal use. They were not demonetised for postal use..."]
FIVE SHILLINGS: 5/- bright rose-pink SG 196 marginal single from the left of the sheet with an Extra Line of Perforations below the 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' Tablet and with an official repair behind, large-part o.g., Cat £130++, for a normal stamp.
FIVE SHILLINGS: 5/- dull pink SG 196b upper-left corner pair with Plate Number '1' and Value/Sheet Number '5/- 000398' in Violet, large-part o.g., Cat £240++, for normal singles. Ed Williams at page 24 states that only three value/sheet number pieces have been recorded. His lower-left corner pair sold for $960.
FIVE SHILLINGS: 5/- pink SG 196a plus De La Rue 3d olive x3 & 6d blue x2 on complete black/white 'PARCEL POST' label affixed to a slightly larger piece from the parcel, 'PARCEL PO ADELAIDE/SE22/95/S.A' cancels, rate of "6/9" confirmed at upper-right, light soiling & minor wrinkles across the stamps still fine for such items. An extremely rare and probably unique franking. Ed Williams recorded only three 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' covers: this item, illustrated by him at page 52; a full cover to England (our Lot 1318); and a large parcel piece without address (Ex Michael Blake: sold for $5950 at our auction of 29.6.2016).
Ed Williams states that "In 1896, this would have sent a 6lb [pounds] parcel to eleven destinations; an 8lb parcel to three destinations; or a 9lb parcel to two destinations".
TEN SHILLINGS: 10/- deep dull green SG 197a upper-left corner pair with Plate Number '1' and Value/Sheet Number '5/- 000465' in Violet, large-part o.g., Cat £500++, for normal singles. Ed Williams at page 24 states that only two value/sheet number pieces have been recorded.
