CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: Partly-annotated array of Triangle forgeries from the expert to the amateurish with pairs to 1/- plus Woodblocks range including pairs of the 1d & 4d, noted such amusements as a 1d blue, a 1d black, a 4d red-brown & a 1/- red-brown, condition a bit variable but generally fine to very fine. A very attractive collection of this popular material.

CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: c.1877 hand-painted cover of a happy sailor on a barrel waving two pendants into one of which a Hope 2½d has been incorporated, BN '4' cancel & 'KING WILLIAMS TOWN' cds, 'CAPE TOWN' transit on the face & 'SIMONS TOWN' arrival b/s, minor blemishes. [The addressee was Francis William Sullivan who joined the Royal Navy in 1848 as a cadet, & rose to the top of the tree, being knighted & on 5.8.1900 appointed Admiral of the Fleet. On 16.10.1876, Sullivan was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the CofGH & West Africa Station. See also Lot 1880]
