image Pladda Lighthouse. 1840 (July 18) Entire letter written by Andrew Adamson from Pladda Lighthouse, on "Northern Lights" notepaper, addressed to "Robert Stevenson Esq., Engineer for the Northern Light Houses, Edinburgh", bearing a 1d black, PB plate 2 (3 margins, torn into at top) tied by a red Maltese Cross, backstamped at Saltcoats and Edinburgh. Adamson answers a query on differing inks used by him and his assistant in June's monthly report. Also an 1834 letter written on board the "Regent" Tender at Tobermory (with Tobermory handstamp) concerning supplies for the boat at Pladda, and stating "you will receive Mr Stevensons order for the other things", and a print and postcard of Pladda Lighthouse. Soldiers Letter. 1796 (Jan 31) Entire letter from John McDougal in Lecamore addressed to "Sergt Hugh McCowan, Capt Camerons Company, 2nd Battn Breadalbane Fencibles, Fort George", posted unpaid, charged the 1d concession rate upon delivery, backstamped "OBAN". Upon the outbreak of war with France in 1793 seven Fencible Regiments were raised for service within Scotland; the 1d soldiers concession rate was extended to these Fencible Regiments in May 1795. A fine early soldiers letter, ex Gerald Sattin collection.

French steamer from Marseille" paid 1/3 in cash with an imperf 1d red paying a late fee, the stamp cancelled by part "159" numeral and "ANGL. / CALAIS" c.d.s, Glasgow and London Paid datestamps and tiny undated "GLASGOW" late fee handstamp.
