Johnstone writes from the last place on his route where there is a direct and certain post to Great Britain; he deals with business, and has learnt the England Mission is no longer at Tabreez but has moved to Teheran, where he must proceed. An early letter from Georgia.

1833 (Sept 7) Entire letter written on superb headed notepaper depicting the Kremlin in Moscow ("Vue Generale du Cremlin", lithographed by L. de Peler, published by "Chez Beckers"), from "In the midst of the Steppe, in sight of Tcherkask", completed two days later at Tcherkask. Addressed to Scotland with a Tcherkask c.d.s on reverse, also handstamped "RUS", Turquie" and "AT". The four page letter describes the journey from Moscow and the towns of Tula and Tcherkask. Minor soiling and some splitting to edge of address panel, otherwise fine, attractive and scarce pictorial notepaper, with a transcription of the letter.

Air Mails. 1922-31 Covers and cards all flown by air mail from Moscow to Berlin, cachets include "Mit Luftpost befordert / Konigsberg (Pr.) 1." (5), some fine multiple frankings, all commercial, one to Ireland, eight registered. Also 1910 photographic postcard from Kronstadt depicting an aeroplane, two coloured cards from a series on the history of aviation, and a 1934 cover from Bulgaria to G.B flown via Berlin.
