image 1867 entire town letter being a largely printed shareholders' notice for the Brisbane Gas Company with Chalons 1d vermilion tied by 'QL'-in-Rays cancel, superb b/s of the distinctive & rare Type 2 '67/MR2/ B / =BRISBANE=' cds, two vertical folds just clear of the stamp with associated soiling. [See Hugh Campbell at page 176, where his Types 1 & 2 are transposed. At page 175, he states that the LRD is 2.2.1867]

image 1873 cover from an unknown Queensland port to "Redfern/Sydney", rated "3" & endorsed "Late Fee" with 3d greenish grey SG 66 x2 - one damaged - cancelled on arrival at Sydney where superb double-oval 'LOOSE SHIP/LETTER' handstamp struck below, minor blemishes. Ben Palmer's Census at page 110. [The inter-colonial rate was 3d + 3d late fee]

image TAX MARKINGS: Accumulation of taxed mail the majority with Postage Dues affixed, wide variety of Brisbane domestic markings including 1913 with Kangaroo 1d (fault) tied 'TPO No3 S&W' with 'T1D' h/s endorsed "Late Fee" and 1d Due tied 'FORTITUDE VALLEY' cds, 1924 Great Britain PPC with 'T1½D' h/s, 1940 with KGVI 2d tied 'KIN KIN' cds and boxed 'EXCEEDS ["one"] OZS/TAX       ' cachet with 'T4D' h/s inserted in space and 4d Due tied GPO cds, 1944 endorsed "PACKET POST" with Kangaroo ½d x3 'CLOSED AGAINST/INSPECTION' cachet & 'T6D' h/s plus two 1960s oversized covers with similar cachets, 1952 with Adhesive Duty 1d violet disallowed and 'TAX2D' h/s, two 1950s underpaid registered items (unusual, as these were suposed to be checked when submitted over the counter), etc, also undenominated types & manuscript endorsements used outside Brisbane such as 1914 large "T2d" blue pencil on cover from Duchess with 2d Due tied 'REGISTERED/TOWNSVILLE' cds, and plenty more, condition variable but many are fine to very fine.  (48) (Image1)

image 1900 Boer War Patriotic Fund 1d imperforate plate proof pairs on ungummed watermarked paper in blue-green or dark blue, margins good to large, plus the issued stamps SG 263 & 264 mint 1d (very fine) & 2d (gum aging & some loss of gum), and CTO 1d with 'BRISBANE' 1900 cds (small paper inclusion & a couple of thinned perfs at top) & 2d with 'GEOR[GE STREET]' cds, Cat £930 for the issued stamps. [Bernie Manning's 'set' of 12 1d proof singles in different colours sold for $4140 at our auction of 13.6.2009, an average of $345 each]  (6 items)

The ACSC states that two of those are in the Royal Collection. [As an obvious forerunner to the country-wide Kangaroo & Map issue, this is an important and underrated stamp]
