image [Missouri] St. LOUIS/Mo., clear Nov 11 c.d.s. with manuscript "S Boat 25" and "Steam Boat 25 cts" on a folded letter datelined New Orleans, Oct 27, 1834, to Jacksonville, Ill. The easily-read letter, from a father to his children, writes that the children's mother had sent them a letter the previous week aboard the steamer Missouri Belle, but that about 15 miles up river the Missouri Belle had collided head-on with the steamer Boonslick coming in the opposite direction. The Missouri Belle quickly sunk, and despite the best efforts of the crew of the Boonslick, 30 of the 130 passengers onboard were drowned, Fine to Very Fine. Suggested Bid $40 (Image)
