1865 (Apr 17) Cover to London headed "From J. May, Seaman, H.M. Ship Galatea, Bermuda" and countersigned, with a G.B 1d red cancelled by superb "A97" obliterator applied on the Cunard mailboat "Europa". Redirected within London with six arrival datestamps (all May 9) and "1" charge mark, incorrectly applied as 1d rate soldiers & sailors letters were supposed to be exempt from redirection charges. The enclosed letter written from the "Galatea" at Bermuda by James May informing his brother that reports of the loss of the "Galatea" were untrue; also an earlier letter written from H.M.S "Implacable". Fine and rare, only seven covers recorded from Bermuda with Cunard mailboat numeral cancels. Photo on Inside Back Cover. (Image1)
