image Local Mail - Rev. Albertyn. 1902 (Jan 24) Cover franked 1d, addressed to "Rev. J. Albertyn, Chaplain Boer Prisoners, Hamilton, Bermuda" with blue circular "PRISONERS OF WAR / PASSED / CENSOR / BERMUDA". The Rev. Albertyn and his wife arrived with the Boers on the "Manila Castle" and took up residence in Hamilton; they were given permission to visit P.O.Ws and acted as liaison between prisoners and the Boer Relief Committee. In February 1902 they were both deported after a letter was smuggled out of a camp and Mrs Albertyn was suspected of being the culprit. An interesting and scarce local cover. Photo on Page 72. Shortened at left with a few edge faults but very scarce, with very few examples of this manuscript censorship recorded, probably only occurring when the chief censor R. 1902 (July 24) 1d Postcard from Henri Dekker on Burtts Island to the Dutch Consul in New York, written eight weeks after the war and therefore not censored. Dekker asks for a loan to enable him return to Europe; the British returned prisoners to South Africa free of charge but if they wished to travel elsewhere they had to pay for the journey themselves. A few pinholes, otherwise fine, an interesting card sent after the war.

Repatriation of P.O.Ws - St. Lucia. 1902 (Aug 3) Picture postcard posted from Castries by a former P.O.W returning on the S.S "Roslin Castle", to Miss Outerbridge at Baileys Bay franked St. Lucia 1d, with arrival c.d.s. Also an unused picture postcard depicting Boers bathing at Vigie, St Lucia. The S.S "Roslin Castle" was the first ship to return to South Africa after the war with Boer P.O.Ws; the ship stopped at St. Lucia for two days for coaling. Anna Outerbridge was a member of the Boer Relief Committee. (2).
