image Quorn-Alice Springs TPO: 'QUORN STUART/12AU30/TPO' (after the change of name) superb strike on KGV ½d orange & 1½d red. Rated RRRRR: the only recorded example. The Quorn-Oodnadatta TPO opened 12.1.1928 - no marking recorded - & was renamed Quorn-Stuart TPO 8.8.1929. Alice Springs TO opened 22.8.1872 & became a PO 1.1.1878. However, the town name was Stuart, until it was officially changed only on 26.1.1932. 'QUORN STUART' was probably an error because the town was always called Alice Springs & that would explain why the TPO was renamed well before the official name change. To further complicate matters, there was a Stuart TO at the old Telegraph Station from 21.7.1907 until 26.1.1932, when it closed & a new post & telegraph office building was opened at the Alice.
