1878 VG. An interesting coin in that $3 gold pieces rarely circulated during the time they were minted, nor any time afterward as far as we can tell. This coin must have been the pocket piece of a wealthy enthusiast to be in the grade that it is in. Here's an opportunity to get one of the scarcer type coins at perhaps an affordable price. (Image)
