1921 AU58 white w/ the typical glossy grey appearance. Very light high-point wear on a better-than-average strike for the first year of issue. Meant to honor the end of WW1 (the "war to end all wars"), striking problems delayed official production until Dec 28th thru Dec 31st of 1921. The total mintage ended up at 1,006,473 (no coins dated 1921 were struck in 1922), and they entered circulation though the New York sub-Treasury on Jan 4th 1922. Though a mint audit shows 154,000 of this date in Treasury vaults as of June 1936, none were among the Treasury's 1962 to 1964 silver dollar release. And, curiously, there is no record of any original bags (or even multi-roll groups) ever being offered for sale in the numismatic marketplace. The treatise "A Guide Book of Peace Dollars" by Roger W. Burdette (2008, Whitman Publishing) is very interesting reading. (Image)
