image Military History of Ohio Logan County, Soldiers Edition 1885 - Special local department, in additions by counties (Logan County Edition), H.H. Hardesty, Publisher (New York, Toledo, and Chicago 1885). This is a large format book of approximately 15” x 11½” having 317 pages, and is about 1-5/8” thick. It is bound in 3/4 leather with brown cloth boards with gilt lettering and decorations. The front cover and title pages are still attached but loose, and the spine has fallen off and partial remains are inside. The book internally is in very good condition with very little staining. The interior pages are surprisingly tight for a book this old. The paper is very heavy. It is somewhat yellowed with age with some minor foxing, and cover seems to have water stains. There are two colored double-page maps of Ohio as shown in two of the photographs, and numerous other engravings. This is a great historical reference book and a nice collectible documenting Ohio history and US history. Many great illustrations of US historical sites, Civil War related, presidents, generals, etc. Includes a historical summary of all US presidents through Chester A. Arthur. Loaded with US history information from the pilgrims thru 1885. LOTS of War of the Rebellion / Civil War information including a listing of every battle (2,261) in chronological order, details on many battles and on the Union generals, including Custer and Grant (both born in Ohio). Includes a Roll of Honor, alphabetical roster of all soldiers from Logan County, including dates, location, rank, unit, deaths, GAR posts, etc. Although costly, restoration would do wonders for this book. (Est $100-200) (Image)
