Laureano de Arrarte of the Spanish ship "Bilboena", reporting the ship dismasted and driven ashore at "Rotendin (Rottingdean) between White Cape and Breiton", taken ashore by the local Lloyds agent, endorsed on reverse "Bilboena stranded at Rottingdean, J.B Stone, agent to Lloyds, 5 June 1837", with a Brighton datestamp and "BRIGHTON / Penny Post". The "Bilboena" was bound from London to Bilbao when driven ashore at Rottingdean; the vessel was unloaded and refloated and taken into Newhaven Harbour. image City of New York. 1864 (Mar 19) Small cover to Italy bearing four 10c green stamps, red "New York Paid 12" c.d.s and boxed "PD", carried on the Inman Line "City of New York" which struck a reef when approaching Queenstown and became a total loss, the passengers and mails all saved and landed at Queenstown on March 29th. Arrival datestamps, flap missing, otherwise fine and rare, with a contemporary magazine illustration of the stranded ship. R.M.S "Labrador". 1899 Cover from Canada to London, the stamp washed off, the imprint of a 5c stamp on reverse, with a Glasgow G.P.O Officially Sealed label tied by datestamps of Glasgow (Mar 10) and London, the front with violet boxed "DAMAGED BY IMMERSION / IN SEA WATER" and manuscript inscription "Went down in the S.S Labrador, mail bags picked up off the Isle of Mull" probably written by the recipient. Also a front from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Glasgow, the stamp washed off and replaced by another 5c stamp, datestamps of St. John's (Feb 16) and Liverpool (Mar 15) and scarce violet "RECOVERED FROM WRECK / OF S.S LABRADOR", stained. The "Labrador" was wrecked in the Hebrides on March 1st; seven mail bags were washed ashore on Mull, Coll and Tiree and were taken to Glasgow, with one other mailbag found by fishermen and taken to Liverpool.
