Newhaven/Brighton - India Letter. 1838 (June 20) Entire from Sydney to London, landed at Newhaven, reverse with blurred "DELOITTE / & COMPY / SYDNEY" forwarding agents cachet, "NEWHAVEN" undated circle and part red boxed "INDIA LETTER / BRIGHTON", charged 1/-. An apparently extraordinary routing from Newhaven along the coast to Brighton instead of inland to Lewes; alternatively the Brighton India Letter handstamp possibly applied in error instead of the Lewes handstamp at the London Ship Letter Office. Very unusual.

Newhaven - Dieppe Service. 1896-1982 Covers, cards and ephemera including 1896-1924 postcards bearing French stamps (17 cards) or G.B stamps all clearly from Dieppe with "LONDON / M.B" datestamps; 1925-34 covers and cards with French stamps cancelled "NEWHAVEN-LONDON / R.S.C" (2) or "NEWHAVEN-LONDON S.C" (2); 1910-12 postcard and cover with G.B stamps cancelled at Dieppe (the card with manuscript "Paquebot"); also 1895 L.B & S.C Railway booklet advertising the route and 1876 printed cover from the L.B & S.C.R agent at Honfleur; two fine poster cards posted by the railway company; other postcards of steamers or Newhaven, modern Newhaven Paquebots, etc. An interesting study of this route and the use of London Mobile Box datestamps on mail clearly sent via Newhaven. (c.80).
