image R.M.S "Titanic". 1912 (Apr 4) Picture postcard depicting the new White Star Liner "Titanic", written on the ship on the proving voyage from Belfast to Southampton by a member of Harland & Wolff's staff from the Drawing Office of the Engine Works, to his girlfriend in Ireland. The message reads "4/4/12, White Star Liner "Titanic", Southampton, D.D, Harland & Wolffs latest, & the worlds greatest steamship has arrived safely (with D). Everything looks all gay with the ship all dressed up with flags, D", a KGV ½d cancelled at Southampton (4 Apr, 11.30am), horizontal crease into address panel, otherwise fine and unique. Also a photographic postcard depicting the ill-fated liner "Titanic (posted Apr. 23) and a mourning card with the ship and music played as she sank (posted Apr. 29). The "Titanic" famously sank on her first transatlantic voyage on April 15th. A few covers and cards are known from that voyage, off loaded at Cherbourg or Queenstown, but this is the only card we have recorded from the ship on her very first proving voyage to Southampton. (3). Photo included on Back Cover. (Image1)
