Pope Martin V Pope Martin V, Birth name Oddone Colonna (1368-1431) Ruler of the Papal States from 11 November 1417 to his death in 1431. A very fine manuscript Papal Bull one page parchment (490x260 mm) in 'scrittura bollatica' Latin, dated '8 Ottobre 1424' with complete lead seal attached. Minor ink fading in heading, all in all in very good condition. A Papal Bull, named for the "bulla†or lead seal originally appended to it, is a particular type of important communication issued by the pope. His election effectively ended the Western Schism of 1378–1417. He is the last pope to date to take on the pontifical name "Martin". (Image 1)(Image)
