Melbourne 21st July 1882", includes nominations for the major races including the Victoria Derby & Melbourne Cup; and previous winners of the major races, Very Fine condition.
Sir Thomas Elder made his fortune from financing copper mines at Moonta & Wallaroo. He was the 'Elder' in the famous pastoral company Elder Smith Godlsborough Mort & Younghusband, and was a renowned philanthropist in South Australia. Captain Frederick Standish was Victoria's Chief Commissioner of Police between 1858 & 1880, and has been credited with instigating a horse race called the Melbourne Cup. (Image1)
