Junkers JU 86 delivery flight from Dessau, Germany to Melbourne via Singapore, envelope with printed view of the Junkers plane "Buckeberg", apparently sent under cover from Batavia to Germany and hand carried on the flight which left Dessau on Feb. 17th, addressed to a "Chief Pilot bound for Singapore, to be posted in Melbourne" but posted instead at Singapore (Feb. 24) franked $1, forwarded to Batavia (Feb. 26). With newspaper cutting (in Dutch, with translation) about the "Buckeberg" flight and copy page from the Lufthansa archive giving the itinerary of the 22,000km flight by Capt. Kommol, which also tested the reliability of crude oil diesel engines; and a press photo of the aeroplane at Dessau prior to the flight, renamed "Lawrence Hargrave" after a pioneer Australian aviator. image Village Cancels. 1930-36 Covers with village cancels of All Saints, Bendals, Cedar Grove, Falmouth, Green Bay, Gunthorpes, Pares, St. Marys or St. Johnstons, the last two covers registered with registration labels of St. Johns. Most philatelic but still very scarce, the Freeland & Jordan Antigua handbook illustrates another 1933 cover of Pares described as "possibly the only surviving early cover", and states only about half a dozen examples of St. Johnstons are recorded (this example possibly the only known registered cover). image 1849 (Dec. 28) Stampless cover to H.M.S "Superb" at Portsmouth, redirected to Queenstown, backstamped boxed "JA 26 1850 / LIVERPOOL / SHIP", London, Portsmouth, Dublin and Queenstown datestamps, charged 8d. The enclosed letter, written from Ascension by "Black Boy Henry France" includes "I went to Captain Hutton to ask him for liberty and he would not let me come ...... the rest of the black men as well as myself would be most happy if we could see you". A fine early letter from Ascension, apparently written by a former slave, many of whom were landed on the island by the Royal Navy in the 1840s. Photo on Page 58. (Image1)
