1919 (Nov 12) England-Australia with Ross Smith vignette applied on arrival tied 'FIRST AERIAL MAIL/RECEIVED/ 26FEB1920/GREAT BRITAIN TO AUSTRALIA' oval d/s with another strike alongside AAMC #27, Cat $5250. The cover is tired and tatty, the label has been lifted and re-attached but appears to be complete & fine. Addressed to Dr CN Simmons 'Clifton' Darling Downs (Qld), listed by Tom Frommer in 'The Ross Smith Stamp & Its Postal History' as cover #290. Martin Eichele Certificate (2011).
1920 (July 30) Melbourne-Traralgon flight AAMC #47 with a superb example of the violet/yellow 'HERALD/AERIAL/ DELIVERY' label tied to the face by 'HERALD & WEEKLY TIMES' "clock" cds and KGV 1½d black-brown tied by 'TRARALGON/VIC' arrival cds, Cat $2000 (2009). Most examples seen have faults such as tonespots, surface adhesions etc. Most are also franked with Victorian stamps, this being one of the relatively few correctly rated with the KGV 1½d stamp.
1932 Bridge 3d blue + KSmith 2d red x2 tied to flight-endorsed cover to Germany by Brisbane cds of 19MR32 (FDI for the Bridge set) and United States 15c Air tied by a different Brisbane cds of 28MR32, superb 'FERRY STATION' b/s in purple applied at San Francisco & German 'Mit Luftpost/befordert/Postamt 1 Hannover' cachet in rosine on the face. [Prepayment of US internal airmail fees had been permitted since 1924 but was discontinued by this time. It appears that the GPO clerk cancelled the Australian stamps but referred the cover to a supervisor who, 9 days later, gave approval for the US stamp to be cancelled. The Ferry Station h/s indicates carriage across San Francisco Bay to the airport at Oakland]
1935 (July 18) Last Flight of the "Southern Cross" AAMC #516 with Jubilee 2d cancelled on arrival at 'RICHMOND/NSW' with perforated silver vignette (slight tone on edges) affixed & signed by Charles Kingsford Smith Cat $650 (2008).
1937 Australia Airmail Exhibition perforated M/Ss of 4 labels in red, blue, green-blue or brown, a few minor blemishes but most units are fine unmounted, AAMC #768c, Cat $240.

1920-23 One Pound (KGV 2d orange) booklet with black/blue cover ACSC B26A containing one complete pane of 15 plus two further panes each with one stamp removed, the cover and contents remarkably fine, Cat $30,000 with complete contents. A surprising new discovery in a family collection. The ACSC still records only one incomplete example. However, a fine & complete example sold for $28,000 in our sale of 25.01.2003.

This was a very limited provisional issue. Of the denominations between ½c & 25c, no more than 4250 (the 2c) were produced. Of the higher values the numbers were 50c x175, 60c x100, $1 x175, $2.50 x225 & $5 x225. [A very fine unmounted set - Cat £25,000 - sold at our auction of 30.11.2019 for $28,752]

ANGUILLA: 1967 'INDEPENDENT/ANGUILLA' Overprint on St Christopher Nevis Anguilla QEII 5c blue/blue aerogramme HG FG1, commercially used to "St John's/Antigua" uprated with Anguilla Pictorials 1c Mahogony Tree tied by 'ANGUILLA/25JAN68/VALLEY' cds, full typed message headed "Post Office Department/..." & signed by the Postmaster indicates the 'Independent/Anguilla' stamps sold out by 27.11.1967 and that regarding the aerogrammes "...there is a limited quantity of 5c & 15c...required for local postal use and sales to collectors have been restricted...". Rare postally used. [We have noted a CTO example - also uprated - without message offered online for £450]
ANGUILLA: 1967 'INDEPENDENT/ANGUILLA' Overprint on St Christopher Nevis Anguilla QEII 15c green/blue aerogramme HG FG2, unused. Extremely rare: only 100 were issued, of which BWI specialist David Druett states only five unused examples are recorded (he offers one for £850). On that basis, this must be the rarest regular-issue aerogramme of the British Commonwealth, if not the world]
BAHAMAS: 1938-52 KGVI Definitives Thin Striated Paper 1/- brownish grey & crimson (not 'scarlet' as in Gibbons) and 5/- reddish lilac & blue SG 155a & 156a, minor imperfections, very lightly mounted, Cat £6450. A rare duo. [Unlike 'laid' paper which has defined lines within the paper itself, 'striated' paper is characterised by faint lines or ridges on the surface of the paper. This can be seen by inclining the stamps to a good light source] (2)
BERMUDA: 1924-32 KGV Keyplates Script Wmk 2/6d range of shades stated to be arranged chronologically, one stated to be "May 1931: rare shade"), also 2/6d black & bright orange-vermilion/deep blue SG 89k with a light fiscal cancel, well centred, a couple of tiny problems otherwise very fine used, Cat £960+ (plus SG 89k Cat £3000 postally used).

One of the key mint stamps of the Reign of King George VI & the first mint example we have offered. 1953 Orient Line PPC of RMS 'Otranto' to Gloucestershire with GB Coronation 2½d tied by largely very fine strike of the 'COCOS/5OCT53/ISLANDS' cds, slight corner bend. [The social message states "Here is another for your collection. This is placed in a Barrel & thrown in to the sea off Cocos Island...". 1963 Pictorials 3d to 2/3d complete set of six die proofs in the issued colours set in a single recessed card (251x195mm) ACSC CK1-6DP(1), the reverse of the display card with six impressions of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) cachet in violet dated "28.6.63" and numbered "9", protected by a fold-back cover page that has faults but the proofs themselves - apart from a tonespot on the 8d - are superb, Cat $15,000. The most important item of the stamp-issuing period, being a complete set of die proofs for the first stamp issue. [Ten such composite proofs were produced, numbered "1" to "9" (for Eric Westbrook of the Stamp Advisory Committee) and the last unnumbered for the Royal Collection. This is only the third example we have recorded]

Travelling Post Offices: '[N] EX RAILWAY/FE9/71/S.A' light but obvious strike of the Northern Extension Railway on DLR 2d. Rated RRRRR: sold at the Prestige auction of 25.1.2003 for $1188. [No examples recorded on cover]
ONE PENNY KGV: 1d rose-red complete sheet of 120 with full margins with listed varieties ACSC 59(3)d-i plus the four imprint positions 59(3)z-zc including the complete Plate 'No 3' at top, quite a lot of ink diffusion between units and a printer's fingerprint (!) in the U/R corner, some folds mostly along perf lines or in margins but around a dozen units affected by light to moderate creasing, minor perf separation re-inforced in margins only with all units unmounted, Cat $1,860+ as mounted for the four imprint blocks of 8 plus listed varieties and singles.
