image 1856 entire to "AH Stone/Perth" with 1d black pair (faults but the R/H unit at least has full margins) & void grid cancel, very fine strike of the undated double-oval 'POST OFFICE/[crown]/("2.2.56")/GUILDFORD/WESTERN AUSTRALIA' h/s alongside, minor blemishes. [The letter is signed by Magistrate "Jonathan Jones" who complains that he has had to suspend court hearings for the lack of a second magistrate. Jones had arrived per 'James Pattison' 18.6.1834 & by 1839 was a publican & landhholder at Guildford. The addressee Alfred H Stone arrived 12.10.1829 per 'Caroline'. A lawyer, during the 1850s he held several government positions including Crown Solicitor]
