1854 stampless cover to Ireland endorsed "Registered" in red & "Paid", 'CASTLEMAINE' crowned-oval b/s & similar Melbourne transit b/s, British ' AZ /3AU3/1854' b/s in red & light 'ATHLONE/AU4/1854' also in red on the face, a little soiled. [On 1.1.1854, Forrest Creek was renamed Castlemaine]
1858 entire to Melbourne with Imperf Emblems 2d pair (a bit trimmed) & 1/- Octagonal (almost full margins) tied by BN '3' of 'CASTLEMAINE' (b/s), endorsed in red "28/Registered" on the face & "Anderson George" on the flap, oval Melbourne arrival b/s unusually without an alpha time code, light vertical fold. [Sold at the Prestige auction of 4.3.2006 for $536]

1859 (Sep 13) cover to Oxfordshire with Half-Length 3d pair (a couple of faults) the first unit with Major Retouch below 'C' of 'VICTORIA' SG 29b (Cat £140) & light BN '9' of 'BEECHWORTH' (oval b/s), tiny Melbourne transit & 'OXFORD/NO11/59' arrival b/s.
1867 (May 4) triple-rate cover to Yorkshire "Via Marseilles" with rare franking of Laureates 10d brown/pink inter-panneau strip of 3 (the first unit damaged) & 6d blue tied by '1'-in-bars 'killer' cancels, Melbourne cds & superb 'REGISTERED'-in-oval h/s in red, London transit d/s of 20JY67 & 'BRADFORD-YORKS' arrival b/s, minor soiling & vertical fold at left. [The reason for the unusually long transit time was that it had to wait for the 'Bombay' ex Melbourne 28.5.1867; then per 'Golconda' Galle-Suez and 'Ceylon' Alexandria-Marseilles, arrived 18.7.1867]
1912 (Dec 31) commercial cover to Tennessee with ½d & 1d x5 tied by 'GOLDEN SQUARE' cds, early-type red/white R label, US registered h/s & arrival b/s in purple. A really beautiful little cover. [The Jolly Joker Club was an American social organisation open to "any reliable white person who agrees to return all favors shown". It sounds like a racist porn ring but was actually for exchange of postcards!]
POSTAL CARDS: 1895 Havelock & Fosters 1d blue Stieg P18 x2 with different advertisements on the reverse - one of the Virginia Tobacco Factories - for Wm Cameron Bros & Co Ltd makers of Havelock Tobacco, unused. [The cards were issued 1.11.1895, provoking such an outcry from the Temperance Movement that they were withdrawn only 18 days later] (2)
