1855 London Printings 2d rose-carmine SG 2 horizontal strip of 5, margins close - at left - to good, three very fine to superb strikes of Numeral '33' of Saddleworth, Cat £475+, for singles. An exceptional First Issue multiple, superior to Dr Don Pearce's strip of 5 that sold for $525.

Cat No: 5-6 group
1856-58 Adelaide Printings 1d yellow-green SG 5-6 group, an unusually large example with good even margins, part-numeral cancel largely clear of the Queen's face, Cat £600. Superb!: perhaps the finest example we have handled.
Our experience suggests that SG 5 & 6 should be treated as a single entry, there being little difference in shade across the many examples we have handled. Note also, that most examples in the market are, or are likely to be, SG 13 or 14 with the roulettes trimmed-off. This situation means that genuine examples of the Imperf Adelaide Penny - such as here - are much scarcer than the catalogue value would indicate.

Cat No: 9a with
1856-58 Adelaide Printings 2d pale red Printed on Both Sides SG 9a with the original light impression upright relative to the 'face', margins just touched - at upper-left - to large, part-'PAID' cds of the GPO in blue, Cat £2500. A very rare error in the imperforate issues. Significantly superior to Dr Don Pearce's example - graded B - that sold for $685. Gary Diffen's examples with the original impression upright, as here, was unsold, and with the original impression inverted sold for £1440.
1856-58 Perkins Bacon Adelaide Printing 6d slate-blue SG 10, margins good to very large at top (marginal?), light bars cancel, Cat £200. Superb: almost the equal of Don Pearce's example that sold for $679 in our sale of 9.11.2022 and superior to Harry Lower's large example - graded 'A' - that sold for $1630. This is a perennially underrated stamp, yet it is priced by Gibbons at only £20 more than the much more often-seen London Printing 6d deep blue SG 3. Our experience suggests that the ratio between surviving examples of SG 3 & SG 10 is at least 10:1.
1860-69 Second Roulettes 2d bright vermilion horizontal pair as SG 26 with rouletting at the top & for only half the depth between and otherwise apparently imperforate, GPO cds of 67/JU21, Cat £3500 for a wholly imperf between pair.

Cat No: 87a with
1868-79 Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 2/- deep carmine Printed on Both Sides SG 87a with the original impression on the 'reverse' showing portions of two units & inverted relative to the 'face', rich colour, GPO cds of JY12/[70], Cat £800. Superior to Harry Lower's example - "a bit stained" - that sold for $1165 and the Colonel Harry Napier/Dr Don Pearce example that sold for $960.
1868-79 Perkins Bacon Compound Perfs '3-PENCE' on 4d ultramarine as SG 102 but with the Overprint in Red and Irregular Compound Perfs 11½x10x10x10, well centred, light 'MANNUM' cds. Unlisted by Gibbons with the Red Overprint. Offered 'as is'.
1876-1904 De La Rue Small Designs Crown/Narrow SA Watermark Perf 10 1d deep green Printed Double SG 167bb, off-centre with the design cut at top and part of the adjoining stamp showing at base, uneven perfs at top & base, very lightly cancelled, Cat £400. The doubling is most evident along the right-hand side where there is a complete second frame ½mm outside the other, and in the letters of 'SOUTH AUSTRALIA' & 'ONE PENNY'. Ex Gary Diffen. Rare: only two examples recorded. RPSV Certificate (2010).
1876-1904 De La Rue Small Designs Crown/Narrow SA Watermark 1d scarlet Perf 13 SG 176a with Major Cracked Electro from Frame above First 'A' of 'AUSTRALIA' to Frame below 'N' of 'ONE', light squared-circle cancel largely clear of the crack. Rare. An extraordinary variety, the equal of the famous 'Big Crack' on the Kangaroo 1d. [Absent from Dr Don Pearce's collection]
1882-99 De La Rue New Denominations Crown/Narrow SA Watermark ½d brown Perf 10 horizontal pair Imperforate Between SG 182a, small-part '[S. AUST]RALIA' in bars duplex cancel, a few perf irregularities, Cat £1500. Ex William Frazer & Gary Diffen. Rare: the only example recorded.
1886-96 De La Rue Long Stamps 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' 5/- Imperforate Plate Proof in lilac with the value in red, marginal single with small-part guideline on gummed unwatermarked paper from the left of the sheet, full original unmounted gum with just the slightest trace of even aging. Ed Williams at page 7 states only one sheet of 60 units was printed.
1901-11 De La Rue Long Stamps Thick 'POSTAGE' Crown/SA 10d brown-orange SG 287 marginal single Imperforate at Right, marginal horizontal & vertical watermark lines show that it is from the L/R corner of the sheet, largely indistinct Adelaide cds. Unlisted in the ACSC and absent from Gary Diffen's collection.
