1855 London Printings Large Star Wmk 1d dark green SG 1 horizontal pair, large to clear margins all around, fine used with light void circle in bars cancel, Cat £1,000+. This pair clearly shows that the dies were not arranged neatly in even rows on the plate (the left-hand unit including a fragment of the top of the stamp below), which results in multiples with full margins being very difficult to find.
1855 London Printings 6d dark blue SG 3, margins close to good, minor soiling, unused, Cat £5500. RPSofV Certificate (2013). A very scarce stamp unused. [The very fine Marcel Burrus, 'Besancon' example sold for €7865]
1855 London Printings 6d deep blue SG 3 horizontal strip of 3, margins good to large with fragments of five adjoining units, dumb cancels of the GPO, Cat £510+. An exceptional multiple. Caffaz Perilo Filatelico Certificate (1993) states "...e perfetta" (= "it is perfect").

Cat No: 167bb
1876-1904 De La Rue Narrow Crown/SA Perf 10 1d green with Double Print SG 167bb, quite well centred for this issue, tonespot that shows through the face, undercatalogued at £400. BPA Certificate (1993) as the then SG 169var, plus a letter from the editor of the Gibbons catalogues confirming that this stamp would be listed from the 1994 edition. [Far more attractive than the only other recorded example, which is poorly centred]
1876-1904 De La Rue Crown SA (Narrow) Watermark 2d orange-red Perf 10 as SG 168 but Mixed Perforations with additional row of Perf 11½ at top, light squared circle cancel, a few uneven perfs. Unlisted in Gibbons and absent from the Gary Diffen sale of 29.4.2020. The stamp was originally Perf 10 all around with the top perforations cutting through the design at the Queen's crown creating a 'dwarf' stamp; the additional row of Perf 11½ was applied to 'rescue' the stamp's original size, but was misplaced upwards to include a part of the stamp above; it is quite remarkable that the stamp was separated in such a way as to retain both lines of perforations, and likely that others from the same row were not so lucky as to survive intact.
1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' 5/- plate proof in rose-pink on ungummed unwatermarked pink paper Perf 11½-12½ with an extra line of horizontal perfs above the value tablet (sensibly reinforced), 'FIVE/SHILLINGS' Printed Four Times. Ex Ed Williams: sold at the Premier auction of 26.1.2002 for $623. RPSofV Certificate (2001). (Image1)

1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' Perf 11½-12½ 50/- dull red as SG 201 with 'FIFTY/SHILLINGS' Printed Twice with 12½mm 'SPECIMEN' Overprint, short perfs at left, large-part o.g. Ex Ed Williams: sold at the Premier auction of 26.1.2002 for $475. RPSofV Certificate (2001).
1892 (c.) 5d stamp-size original artwork in India ink & Chinese white on thin card (31x36mm) endorsed "Finis Coronat Opus" at the base. A beautiful & superb essay. ['Finis Coronat Opus' {= "the end crowns the work"} was the nom-de-plume of Melbourne artist Maximilian Tannenberg who worked for the printers Troedel & Co. Another of his designs was adopted for the issued stamp. The matching 2½d essay sold at our auction of 30.8.2020 for $3833]
1902-04 Thin 'POSTAGE' 8d ultramarine with 'EIGNT PENCE' ACSC S26c (SG 272a) being the first unit in a horizontal pair, lightly mounted, Cat $2000+ (£2500). BPA Certificate (1980). [Gary Diffen's mint example in a block of 4 sold for £1680]
1902-04 Thin 'POSTAGE' Perf 12 3d olive with 'POSTAGE' & 'THREE PENCE' Grossly Misplaced resulting in Blank Tablets BW #S19c, a little aged, lightly mounted, Cat $750. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2015). [Michael Blake's very fine example sold at our auction of 30.6.2016 for $992]
1904-11 Thick 'POSTAGE' Crown/SA 1/- brown vertical pair Imperforate Between ACSC S54bb (SG 288a), lightly mounted, Cat $2000 (£2750). [The ACSC states seven such pairs have been identified, of which this must be one of the finest]
1906-12 Thick 'POSTAGE' Crown/A 9d brown-lake vertical pair Imperforate Between ACSC S52ba (SG 302a), lightly mounted, Cat $2000 (£2250). Ex William Frazer and Gary Diffen: sold for £1440. [The ACSC states ten such pairs have been identified, including in two blocks of 4 & a block of 8]
'O.S.' OVERPRINTS: 1876-85 4d deep mauve with the Overprint Inverted SG O24a, 'QUORN/SE30/89/SA' squared-circle, Cat £850. RPSofV Certificate (2008). [Gary Diffen recorded only five examples, despite which his two lightly cancelled stamps sold for only £348 & £336 respectively. They should be worth at least ten times as much]

'O.S' OVERPRINTS: 1891-95 Surcharges '2½d.' on 4d green with the 'O.S.' Overprint Inverted SG O71c, large-part o.g., undercatalogued at £600. A great rarity. [This stamp was found by us in an old-time collection from America. The alignment of the overprint is almost exactly the same as on Gary Diffen's stamp. Our subject is far more attractive than the Diffen example which has rough perfs, and which was stated to be "the only example recorded". It sold for a modest £720. Our estimate is conservative.]
