Saint Helena: 1880 (Mar. 27) packet letter entire to Nantes, France bearing perf. 121/2 2d. yellow type C and perf. 14 x 121/2 1s. deep green with dumb cancellations, despatch c.d.s. below, noted “71/2” in ms. and carried on the “Warwick Castle”, French transit backstamp. The 1s.11/2d. per 1/2oz. general foreign rate was introduced on Apr. 1 1877 but due to the unavailability of 1/2d. stamps until 1884 this was rounded upward to 1s.2d. for single rate, the double rate charged correctly as 2s.3d.
