GREENOCK - POSTAL MARKINGS, 1794-1856: Collection of mails, well-researched and presented on display pages. Early items include 31 Aug. 1795 EL to Edinburgh with 2 good strikes of "GREEN/OCK" in 23mm ring and 8 Jul. 1800 partial EL with good Greenock 'Ring' type mark (v. late usage for this); some fine examples of mileage marks of the type "GREENOCK/[date]/429-G", 1834 EL with fine "GREENOCK/PENNYPOST" in black and 1801 EL to an MP with "GREENOCK/12APR1801" mark in red alongside circular crown FREE mark in same ink. Lot also includes c.1814 EL from Glasgow to Paisley with fine boxed "MISSENT/---TO---/GREENOCK" in black, DEC 1839 & Jan. 1840 ELs with m/s "4" marks of the Universal 4d Post period and partial EL with v. fine Greenock "2" from UPP period.
