POSTAL CARDS: 1880 Chalon 1d bundle with an array of colours/shades on various stocks & sizes, two with 'SPECIMEN' h/s (one folded), some minor blemishes/tonespots but generally well above-average quality with many fine to very fine unused.

POSTAL CARDS: 1888 Bradbury Wilkinson Head 1d 2d & 3d each with 'SPECIMEN' handstamp in blue (all illustrated at page 9), unused set, commercially used 1d in 1890, 2d in 1890 to GB with superb 'HOME HILL' cds (ERD; illustrated at page 13) & 3d in 1890 to GB, and CTO 2d & 3d (both illustrated at page 12); plus later printings of the 1d unused, used internally x2, uprated with ½d to GB x2, Belgium or Germany (not uprated & with '5/CTMS/T' h/s); also c.1895 printings with Heavier Address Lines unused x2, used domestically & used to Sydney but neither uprated nor taxed; generally very fine. [NB: the 3d was redundant from 1.1.1890 when the overseas rate was reduced to 2d. The 2d was redundant from 1.10.1891 when the rate was further reduced to 1½d. Most used examples of the 2d & 3d are out-of-period. Examples used before the rate reductions are very scarce]

POSTAL CARDS: 1891 Bradbury Wilkinson Head 2d blue 'VIA DIRECT ROUTE' HG 5 to "Trinity College/Oxford" with BN '114' & 'NORMANTON' cds of JA8/89, 'THURSDAY ISLAND' transit b/s, minor blemishes. [Social message to the writer's uncle: "...I believe you have a river in or near the town of Oxford. Are there any alligators in it? We have plenty here..." Of course, the writer was referring to crocodiles in Australia]
POSTAL CARDS: 1891 Bradbury Wilkinson Head 2d blue 'VIA DIRECT ROUTE' HG 5 to Holland with Townsville duplex of MY31/89, endorsed at L/R "These Cards do/not apply to/foreign countries" & large 'T' handstamp applied, lengthy cross-written social letter, a bit worn. [It seems unlikely that the card was sent beyond Queensland. There are no other postal markings & Holland had used Postage Dues from 1870]
POSTAL CARDS: 1891 Bradbury Wilkinson Head 3d mauve 'VIA BRINDISI OR NAPLES' to Scotland with Brisbane duplex of MR4/89, faint bend. Social message states "Have had no letters for a long time...This is my first PC. I think them too dear" (beats 6d for a letter!).

POSTAL CARDS: 1891 UPU Issue 1½d+1½d brown Reply Card HG 9 colour trial for the reply-half in purple-brown on buff, the closest colour to the issued chocolate-brown, light discolouration. Ex Ron Butler. [With unused & CTO examples of the issued card for comparison. The issued cards are on grey-buff stock, & the Coat-of-Arms is 10mm above 'To'; on the essays it is 6mm]

Medallion Portrait 1d chocolate-brown HG 12 'Arrowroot Field, Coomera River' (fine), 'Botanic Gardens' (badly stained), 'Corner Queen and Edward Streets...' (fine), 'Harvesting...' (overall discolouration but with superb BN '202' & 'DALVEEN' cds), 'Haystacks...' (faults), 'Parliament House...' (soiled), 'Pineapple Plantation...' (fine but discoloured on the reverse), 'Ploughing & Harvesting...' (repaired tear otherwise very fine), and 'Wheat Stripping...' (poor). [Used examples, particularly those uprated [of which there are two here] are most uncommon]

REGISTRATION ENVELOPES - OFFICIAL: Unstamped OHMS type with printed address 'Post and Telegraph Department/ Brisbane', unused; 'RETURNED UNCLAIMED LETTER' types three different editions, the last with 'On His Majesty's Service' used in 1898 1899 & 1908 respectively, the earliest & latest each with 'DEAD LETTER OFFICE/[crown]/ QUEENSLAND' impressed in red wax across the flaps; a few faults but highly presentable.
