1880 Essays for a 1d+1d Reply Card First Sideface 1d impressed twice on the face of a standard-size card with vertical dividing line & inscribed 'NAME & ADDRESS OF PERSON TO WHOM SENT' at U/L and 'NAME & ADDRESS OF SENDER' at U/R and the reverse similarly divided with 'MESSAGE TO BE SENT' at U/L & 'REPLY' at U/R, all printing in black, endorsed at the top "Essay 1880 not issued", some staining & a reinforced crease at L/R. Rare: an outstanding item for a collection of the First Sideface issues. [Ron Butler's very fine example - Illustrated at page 3 - sold for £1725]

1880 Essays for a 1d+1d Reply Card Chalon 1d+1d rose-carmine two impressions on the same side of a double-size buff card, centrally folded horizontally but otherwise with no means of separation, endorsed on the face "Proof for Colour 1880" & on the reverse "For approval of color [sic] Please return with color marked", faults. The only recorded example: the format was not approved. [Illustrated at page 4. The design varies from the issued 1d cards in that there are no horizontal lines above & below 'THE ADDRESS ONLY...'. Ron Butler's similar very fine essay for the single card - illustrated at page 3 - sold for £1092]

1891 Bradbury Wilkinson Head Reply Cards 1d+1d carmine/cream-buff stock HG 7 with 'REPLY' = 10mm Long, folded along the perfs & reinforced otherwise very fine unused; also 1892 printing on drab stock unused & the 'REPLY'-half properly used domestically; and c.1895 printings with Heavier Address Lines with 'REPLY' = 10mm unused & message-half used to Holland, 11mm unused, 9mm CTO & reply-half used domestically (creased), or 6mm on drab stock unused & used to Victoria but neither uprated nor taxed and the reply-half local philatelic usage; mostly fine to very fine. - 1910 Non-Scenic Issue Four Figures 1d scarlet/buff with Three-Line Heading (the now-superfluous Fourth Line 'The Address only to be written on this side' Omitted) as HG 18 but with a black & white print of an unidentified terrace building on the reverse and a black vertical dividing line - that may be printed - on the address side, a few faults, unused.
