1914-19 Field Post Office cancels and censor markings from units in Egypt, Turkey, France or England, noted 1914-15 PPCs sent from troop convoys, 1915 Field Service postcards plus group of fronts with '6TH INF BDE/FIELD PO' cds sent from Gallipoli, 1915-16 Egypt PPCs with '4th Signal Troop/Engineers/AIF' cachet and 'ARMY/ TELEGRAPHS' cds, with 'FRANKED/8th TRAINING/Battalion' h/s or '9th LIGHT HORSE RGT/AIF' oval rubber d/s respectively, Parcel Label from "8th Field Ambulance" with Great Britain KGV 1½d & 4d, 1918 front (parcel wrapper?) from POW at Zeist Camp Holland, covers from Palestine with EEF stamps x2, various Comfort Funds envelopes, also a few covers with KGV 1d reds including to AIF Abroad marked 'Returned', etc, some postmarks on stamp & piece, plus Bob Emery's 'Australian Imperial Forces Postal History 1914-1918' plus the scarce 'Supplement', condition quite variable but pickings throughout. 1939-45 World War II huge accumulation of covers & stationery to and from Middle East, Europe & Pacific servicemen as well as Home Forces mail, wide variety of Field PO & censor markings, Navy & Air Force mail, registered, instructional & undeliverable handstamp, some civilian censor labels, etc, including 1939 'ARMY/DLO/ TELEGRAPHS' cds, 1940 group with Palestine Egypt or Lebanon frankings plus one from Sudan & another from Aden, a few 9d Kangaroos on airmail covers, 1941 Malaya frankings, 1942 'MIL PO/BONEGILLA, VIC, AUST' oval d/s, 1943 with South African 'PAQUEBOT' in violet, 1944 registered from US Forces with Sydney 'OUT OF COURSE' cds, 1945 'HMAS SHROPSHIRE/Official Signing Of/Japanese Surrender' cover, etc, also some ephemera including Japanese-language 'ceases resistance' leaflet plus Proud & Collas Forces books, condition variable but many fine. 1941 Cairns (Qld) 'OPENED BY CENSOR' resealing label (rouletted at top & base), ' 1/3 /PASSED/BY/CENSOR/ [ ] ' diamond cachet (without number at base) in violet applied in transit on face of cover to USA with Papua Pictorials 3d Dandy tied 'PORT MORESBY/30DE38/PAPUA' cds. The Cairns civilian censor station operated from late-1940 to late-1941/early-1942 only; by April 1942 many of the civilian population had been evacuated (as Cairns was in range of Japanese bombers) and Australian & US troops had begun moving into the area, bringing military censorship stations with them (as also happened at Darwin).
1941 usage by Australian serviceman "S/Sgt PM Pederson, 12th Rec Sect, AIF" (return addresses) of airmail covers with printed 'POSTAGE PAID/25 CENTS/MALAYA' in red from Singapore to Australia, one with the indicium at U/R as usual and 'FIELD POST OFFICE/2 OC/1941/SP 501' cds, the other unusually with the indicium applied at top-centre and 'AIF FIELD PO/11SE41/No 19' cds alongside, minor blemishes. [Singapore fell to the Japanese on 15.2.1942]

1942 stampless cover to Perth with superb 'Services Prisoners/of war. Camp No 11' at Harvey with large boxed 'RISPONDTE A/...(SCRIVETE CHIARO)/...' cachet on the reverse & Censor #1 h/s all in violet.
1942 (May 16) cover endorsed for airmail in Australia only with KGVI 3d blue Die III pair tied by 'AIF FIELD PO/No 23' cds used in Ceylon, Indian-pattern triangula censor h/s in violet, Strathfield arrival machine b/s. Rare. [Australian forces returning from the Middle East were diverted to Ceylon, where they remained for only 6 weeks]
1942 usage of locally-printed Air Mail Letter Card to Australia from 'RAF Station, Kallang, S'pore" (return address) with Malaya Straits Settlements KGVI 12c blue over 'Affix/12 Cents/Malayan/Stamp/here' and tied 'SINGAPORE' cds, red 'R.A.F./CENSOR/27' h/s on face and 'FIELD POST OFFICE/5 JA/1942/SP 501' b/s, the left-hand panels removed otherwise fine. [Singapore fell to the Japanese on 15.2.1942]
1942 usage of Air Mail Letter Card form with 'INDIA' printed at lower-right & blocked-out and with 'POSTAGE PAID/12 CENTS/JOHORE' h/s in red at upper-right over 'Affix/12 Cents/Malayan/Stamp/here', to Australia with very late usage of 'AIF FIELD PO/8JA42/No 18' cds in use at Mersing, triangular crowned 'PASSED BY /CENSOR/No.2959' at L/L, light fold & repaired tear at U/L, some aging marks. [We have recorded only two other examples of the 'INDIA' form so altered; Australian troops withdrew from Johore on 31.1.1942, blowing a hole in the causeway linking it to Singapore; Singapore fell to the Japanese on 15.2.1942]

1943 (c.) Japanese Prisoner of War postal card printed in black & red on cream stock, from an Australian soldier at "Djawa" (= Java) Camp to NSW with Japanese chop in red & Melbourne censor cachet in violet, central fold. A very scarce item.
1945 (Sept 7) usage of formular 'AIR MAIL/LETTER CARD' unfranked to serviceman with "HQ British Army Newspaper Unit, CMF" from nurse at "RN Hospital, Sydney" (return address), censored with Sydney '2 Opened by Censor' red on yellow label specifically printed for use on Airletters, tied by 'BRITISH FLEET MAIL/2' cds and forwarded via military mail. Interesting message includes "On VP Day itself several hospital ships left Sydney for Hong Kong and at the moment speculation is rife as to whether they'll bring released prisoners of war down here ..."
1950 cover to England endorsed "FORCES MAIL EXPRESS" from BCOF Japan serviceman with Great Britain KGVI 1/- brown 'solo' tied 'AUST. UNIT POSTAL STN/24JE50/495' cds in use at Toyko, carried via the British naval service with 'BRITISH FLEET MAIL/ 25JU/50/ 9' b/s, couple of minor blemishes. [The Korean War broke out on 25.6.1950 - the day after this item was posted - and the UPS 495 datestamp was eventually placed in service there in 1953 as a replacement for the lost UPS 496 cds]
1951 usage of 'BELGIAN/UNO FORCE - Nr 13 - M.D.' formular aerogramme endorsed "O.A.S." from "29th British Gen Hosp, Ward 1 - Kure, Japan, BAPO 5" (return address) to another Belgian serviceman with "UNO Forces in Korea, British Army, Post Office 3", sent via the Australian Army postal service with 'AUST. UNIT POSTAL STN/23MY51/453' cds, lengthy personal message in Flemish(?) inside, minor opening faults. [Inwards mail to Korean War servicemen is scarce, all the more so being 'inter-unit']
1973 cover to Tattersalls, Melbourne from serviceman at Woodlands ANZUK Base, Singapore (return address) endorsed "Forces Air Mail" with Pioneer 5c Society 'solo' tied British-pattern 'ANZUK FPO/26JY/73/ 5' cds paying the airmail surcharge only (basic surface mail being free), couple of very minor blemishes.
