1882 LETTER FROM HENRY FAWCETT: 1882 (20 May) letter insert (with printed heading "General Post Office, London") from the blind Postmaster General Henry Fawcett to a member of the public, in response to a claim for compensation relating to watches damaged in a registered package and advising "The Post Office is by law exempt from liability" and goes on to suggest the reason for the damage was more likely poor packing rather than poor handling, concluding that pressing the claim would be "hopeless". interesting and most unusual.
