Cat No: 39a [20]
1907 Small 'Papua' Overprints 1d black & carmine with 'Papua.' Overprint Vertical Reading Upwards SG 39a [20], well centred, Port Moresby cds of 10JAN08, Cat £4500. [Two sheets of 30 were affected. Croaker cites a description of a complete sheet as having 16 of 30 units with a complete overprint but the other sheet may have been a significantly different proposition. Many examples had the overprint under-inked, which is often referred to as "light grey". This stamp has a well-inked overprint, the visual appeal being much greater. Tim Rybak's and Peter Troy's similar but non-marginal examples sold at Prestige auctions for $4830 (2008) & $4660 (2009) respectively]
1907 Small 'Papua' Overprints 1/- black & orange with Double Overprint One Diagonal SG 44ba, well centred, a little oxidised at top & right, CTO with Port Moresby cds, Cat £14,000. Despite the discolouration, a highly presentable example of this dramatic error. [The error affected 24 stamps on a single sheet of 30: all but five were datestamped. Peter Troy's two very fine examples sold at the Prestige auction of 28.7.2009 for $18,640 & $15,145 respectively]
1907-10 Small 'PAPUA' intensive plating study of the Perf 11 1d SG 49 in four boxed albums with emphasis on the printing flaws colloquially known as 'Bullet Holes' both mint & used plus research notes and a swag of colour photographs of sheets & single stamps enlarged to A4-size, Cat £1000+. A genuine labour of love. "You want bullet holes? Baby, we got bullet holes!"
