OVERPRINTED 'O S': 1887-90 Overprinted 'POSTAGE' in Blue £1 mauve & claret overprinted 'O S' Type 1 SG O38, poorly centred as always, small closed scissor-cut at lower-left, untidy Sydney duplex cancels, Cat £19,000. RPSofV Certificate (2002). [This is the rarest face-different stamp of all the Australian Colonies and the Commonwealth! Only nine examples - three unused and six used, one of which is in the Royal Collection - are recorded. On this basis it should be worth more than the Queensland Two Corners 6d ($25,000+) of which some 18 examples are known. Absent from such important collections as John White, 'Carrington' (Mark Dankin), Sir Gawaine Baillie, 'Chartwell' & 'Besancon'. Last sold at the Prestige auction of 5.12.2009 for $11,067]
OVERPRINTED 'O S': 1890-91 Wmk '5/ ' over NSW Perf 10 5/- lilac SG O49 overprinted 'SPECIMEN' horizontal pair, the left-hand unit with Deformed 'S' in 'OS' and the right-hand unit with Distorted 'O' in 'OS', large-part o.g. Ex Jim Johnstone: sold at the Prestige auction of 24.5.2008 for $815. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2004) states "Only 100 of this SPECIMEN printed so only 2 examples of the varieties existed and this se-tenant pair is believed to be unique".
