Ex Baron de Ferrary, Robert Odenweller (acquired in a mixed lot at a Harmers NY auction) & "Manwood". Sold at the Prestige auction of 8.11.2013 for $26,795. RPSofL Certificate (2013). [This is one of the finest unused Penny Sydney Views in private hands, and it was Dale Forster's favourite stamp in his collection. It is superior in quality & appearance to 'Besancon II's' unused SG 5 & SG 8 that sold for SFr13,915 & SFr15,730 respectively]

1850-51 Sydney Views Plate II Horizontal-Lined Background & Dated Bale Bottom Row Retouched 2d dull blue with 'CREVIT' Omitted from Motto SG 28g [R2/1] from the lower-left corner of the small sheet, margins large to humungous with complete outer framelines, bars cancel of Sydney, Cat £400. A huge & magnificent stamp! Ex Charles Lathrop Pack, Dale-Lichtenstein and John White. [Superior to the superb example of the variety sold at our auction of 25.3.2021 for $2995. 1850-51 Sydney Views Yellowish Paper 3d yellow-green SG 39 early impression with all details clear, large even margins, superb BN '3' of Windsor, Cat £350. Superb & beautiful!: one of the finest Three Pence Sydney Views we have seen. [NB: Gibbons distinguishes early, intermediate & late printings in the 2d issues but not for the 1d or 3d. Especially in the 3d, this is a major consideration. The vast majority of 3d stamps have worn indistinct impressions. Stamps from the earliest printings are very scarce & should be worth a large premium]

1850-51 Sydney Views Laid Paper 3d yellow-green with No Whip SG 43f [Pos 18], an early impression with much detail in the design, an unusually large example with margins good to large, Sydney bars cancel clear of the variety, Cat £900.
1851-54 Laureates Bluish Paper 1d scarlet SG 46, margins close to good except at the base where just shaved, unused, Cat £2500. An exceptional impression from a very early printing.
1851-55 Laureates Bluish Medium Wove Paper 1d brick-red with 'WALE ' at Right SG 48c being the first unit in a horizontal pair [Pos 9-10], margins clear to large except at the top where a little cut-into, professionally repaired mostly affecting the normal unit, unused, Cat £7500+. A rare and overall attractive multiple.
1851-53 Laureates 3d emerald with 'WACES' for 'WALES' SG 69a, margins close to good, untidy but light cancel, Cat £800. A very attractive example of this popular variety.
1851-54 Laureates 8d orange with No Leaves Right of 'SOUTH' SG 81b, margins close to good, rich luxuriant colour, BN '66' of Singleton, Cat £1700. The only example we can recall offering of this extremely difficult stamp: sold at the Prestige auction of 23.9.2011 for $1745.
1854 Laureates with Numeral Watermark 2d Prussian blue SG 85 horizontal pair from the right of the sheet [Pos 39-40], margins good to huge with outer framelines at right of both units & at base of the R/H unit, large-part o.g., Cat £1000+ for singles.
1854-59 Imperf Large Diadems 6d grey-brown with Error of Watermark '8' SG 96a, margins close to large, unused, Cat £4500. [Sold at the Prestige auction of 17.10.2008 for $1860]
1854-59 Imperf Large Diadems 8d golden yellow SG 97, startling rich shade with good to large even margins, Rays '9' cancel of Bathurst, Cat £1600. A visually striking stamp.
1854-59 Imperf Large Diadems 8d dull yellow-orange SG 98, margins good to very large but professionally repaired at right, minor internal bend & a bit aged, unused, Cat £24,000. A very attractive spacefiller, offered at our vendor's requested VERY conservative estimate.

1856-60 Imperf Small Diadems 1d orange-vermilion as SG 107 but Rouletted on All Sides horizontal pair, a bit stained & with large-part redistributed o.g. The famous 'Dutton Roulettes'. Unlisted by Gibbons. [On 3.11.1856, James Dutton submitted a block of 24 (6x4) to the NSW Postmaster-General in the hope the Post Office would adopt his method of separation, which did not happen. The block was in the George Ginger collection (1945) and was later divided into smaller pieces. A vertical pair sold at our auction of 20.4.2015 for $1090]
1856-60 Imperf Small Diadems 1d orange-vermilion with Error of Watermark '2' SG 107a, good even margins except at right where just shaved, tiny closed tear or scissor-cut in the L/H margin that doesn't intrude on the design and a trfile soiled, Sydney duplex cancel, Cat £9500. The only recorded example of what is, because it's an imperforate issue, rightly considered to be one of the great watermark errors of the Australian Colonies. Ex Tommy Allen, William Frazer, 'Alvarado' and Gary Diffen: sold for £5400. RPSofL Certificates (1941) and (2003).
1856-60 Imperf Small Diadems 3d dull green with Error of Watermark '2' SG 117a, minor Pre-Printing Paper Crease at right, three close to good margins & just shaved at right, light oval cancel, Cat £4000. Ex John White and Gary Diffen: sold for £2520. RPSofL Certificate (1957) as the then SG 113a. [Ten examples, all used, have been recorded. Most have significant faults & this is one of the finest known]
1860-63 'REGISTERED' Perf 12 Wmk '6' (6d) rose-red & Prussian blue SG 127 with the Frame Printed Twice, a little aged, light numeral cancellation. Rare: previously listed by Gibbons but inexplicably (or, according to Spink, "inextricably"!) removed. Ex Ric Slade-Slade. RPSofL Certificate (1974) as the then SG 101(var). [Gary Diffen's professionally cleaned example sold for £384]
1860-72 Perforated Diadems Perf 12 1d orange-vermilion, 2d blue Plate I and Plate II, 5d dull green (rare, no gum) & 6d greenish grey SG 131 133 138 141 & 145 all with the Watermark Inverted & Reversed, some characteristic irregular perfs, part- to large-part o.g., Cat £2925 for the normal stamps. (5)
1860-72 Perforated Diadems Perf 12 2d Prussian blue Plate II with Error of Watermark '1' SG 136a, exceptional centring, small thin at the base in no way detracts from the exceptional facial appearance, light but obvious Rays '18' cancel of Mudgee, undercatalogued at £3500. The only recorded example in private hands: five others are all institutionalised. Ex Ernest Collins (1928), HP Manus (1933), George Ginger (1945), Guy Hutson and Gary Diffen: sold for £4200. RPSofL (1923) and RPSofV (2013) Certificates.
1860-72 Perforated Diadems Perf 12 6d violet SG 148 horizontal strip of 3, the first unit significantly out of register with the others which are very well centred, minor gumside blemishes but with large-part o.g., Cat £2250+ for unused singles. A rare multiple.
1860-72 Perforated Diadems Perf 13 3d dull green as SG 158 but with No Watermark, very well centred, light part-duplex cancel of Sydney, unlisted by Gibbons. The only recorded example. Ex Gary Diffen: sold for a very modest £216. When Gibbons do list this stamp, the value will go through the roof!
1860-72 Perforated Diadems Perf 13 6d purple SG 165 block of 6 (2x3), a couple of insignificant blemishes on the gum still very fresh with large-part to virtually full o.g., Cat £1140++ for unused singles. Ex Arthur Hind, one-time owner of the British Guiana 1c black/magenta. A beautiful showpiece.
1860-72 Perforated Diadems Perf 13 6d purple with Error of Watermark '5' SG 165a with the Watermark Inverted & Reversed marginal example from the base of the sheet Imperf at Base and with a vertical Pre-Printing Paper Fold, Sydney duplex cancel. 1871-1902 Wmk '36' 1/- black vertical Imperforate Pair SG 221e, margins just touching to good, the upper unit with 7mm repaired tear that doesn't affect the facial appearance, Cat £3750. Ex Colonel Harrie Evans and Gary Diffen: sold for £2520. RPSofV Certificate (2002) that erroneously states "imperforate horizontally". [Only two other pairs recorded: a defective pair Ex Theodore Steinway (1939), current whereabouts unknown, and a horizontal pair also Ex Colonel Harrie Evans. The tear has been really well repaired & was not noted in the Evans or Diffen catalogues nor on the certificate]
1882-97 Wmk '40' 6d mauve Perf 12x10 SG 235ca marginal example from the right of the sheet with part-marginal inscription & Imperf at Right, light Sydney duplex. Ex Gary Diffen: sold for £192. [Only two other postally used examples have been recorded]
1882-97 Wmk '40' 8d yellow Perf 10 SG 236 marginal block of 9 from the left of the sheet, deep brilliant colour, large-part o.g. with four units being unmounted, Cat £2250++ for mounted singles. A spectacular block that may be the largest recorded. BPA Certificate (2019).
1885-86 High Value Revenues Overprinted 'POSTAGE' in Black £1 lilac & claret SG 240a [Overprint Pos 25], unusually well centred for this stamp, some characteristic irregular perforations, large-part o.g., Cat £11,000. Chris Ceremuga (2003) & David Brandon (2005) Certificates. [Chris Ceremuga states "Very rare as only 77 believed issued and only several mint examples are recorded". The 'Besancon' (III) unmounted block of 4 - split into two pairs - sold for SFr26,620]
