1851-55 Laureates Plate I (Worn Plate) 2d ultramarine SG 58 [46-47] horizontal pair from the base of the sheet with part '[Engraved on Steel by J Carmi]chael, Kent Strt North Sydney' imprint, margins clear - at U/R - to huge, just tied to small piece by very fine bars cancel of Sydney, Cat £76++. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2019) states "...very rare multiple".
1851-55 Laureates Bluish Medium Wove Paper 8d orange-yellow SG 80, margins just clear at U/L to good with a fragment of the adjoining unit at the base, cancelled largely clear of the Queen's Head, Cat £600.
1856-59 Imperf 'REGISTERED' Bluish Medium Wove Paper (6d) vermilion & Prussian blue SG 102 enormous corner example from the L/R of the sheet with margins good to humungous, Rays '72' cancel of Wee Waa, Cat £180. A magnificent example.

1856-60 Imperf Small Diadems 3d dull green with Error of Watermark '2' SG 117a, margins close to large, light 'NSW'-in-Concentric-Ovals cancel, Cat £4000. Superb! and probably the finest of the 10 recorded examples, most of which have significant faults. Ex George Boucher and 'Besancon' III. RPSofL Certificate (1939). [There was no example in the Hind, Burrus, Caspary, Dale-Liechtenstein, Slade-Slade or Wiggins collections. Superior to & significantly larger than the 'Besancon' (I) example that sold for €4840]
1860-72 Perforated Diadems Perf 13 range on Charles Lathrop Pack's neatly annotated pages with 1d x31 including five pairs & a strip of 4; 3d x27 including two pairs; 6d x55 including the very scarce & underrated aniline mauve SG 167, one with two Pre-Printing Paper Folds, four pairs & a very scarce block of 4; and 8d x23 one with 'REGISTERED/BRAIDWOOD' cancel; and from another source 1d x9 & 1/- x8 including two pairs; many with watermark variations and some postmark interest, generally fine to very fine.

1860-72 Perforated Diadems Perf 13 1/- crimson-lake SG 170 marginal block of 4 from the left of the sheet with Convolvulus Pattern in the margin, unusually well centred for this issue, large-part (brown) o.g., Cat £1600++. Another rare showpiece. Ex Ric Slade-Slade and John White. [Better centred & more attractive than the 'Besancon' (II) block of 4 that sold for €2420]
1861-88 Five Shillings Coin 5/- plate proof in black on ungummed unwatermarked thick wove paper half-sheet of 25 from the left of the sheet with margins large to gigantic, a few light tonespots & some light soiling still a spectacular piece that will fit on a standard display page. Ex Guy Hutson.

1862-65 De La Rue selection of shades, perfs & watermarks with mint 1d x5 & 2d x7 (one with no gum) and used 1d x3 & 2d pairs x3 (one with Sydney duplex of AP12/62 stated by Gibbons to be the First Day of Issue). Good lot for the specialist.

1862-65 De La Rue 2d imperforate plate proof in blue on ungummed unwatermarked paper, close even margins, manuscript "Specimen" diagonally from L/L to U/R. Ex Marcus Samuel and Bill McCredie. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2002) states "very rare".
1882-97 Wmk '40' Perf 10x12 6d violet horizontal pair Imperforate Between SG 235cb, untidy Rays cancels as have all the recorded examples, Cat £2750. [A block of 18 - 9 pairs - was discovered in 1911. A block of six was removed & is in a Museum. Of the other six pairs, one is defective]
1885-86 High Value Revenues Overprinted 'POSTAGE' in Blue £1 rose-lilac & claret SG 242, one pulled perf at L/L, very fresh with large-part o.g., Cat £10,000. A very rare stamp.
1888-89 Centennial of New South Wales 1d imperforate colour trial block of 4 in dull blue-green on ungummed unwatermarked paper, large margins, a couple of minor tonespots. Ex Jim Johnstone. [Sold at the Prestige auction of 29.11.2008 for $699]
In 1988 Rodney Perry offered by private treaty a largely complete set of 57 of the 65 possible colours all in blocks of 4. Our vendor has confirmed that all those offered here are from that source, as were the "set" of 8 blocks sold for $6900 at the Prestige auction of 24.5.2008. Richard Breckon, writing in 'The Australian Philatelist' of June 1988, referred to the Perry blocks stating "at least one set exists in blocks of 4". We are not aware of any others.

1890 Centennial High Values 20/- Governors Perf 11 single from the base of the sheet with 'CP' Monogram (of Charles Potter), a little aged & minor gum-loss, Cat £500++. Rare.
1894-1904 'POSTAGE' Overprint in Blue 10/- violet & claret on Chalk-Surfaced Paper Perf 12x11 SG 278 corner block of 4 from the U/R of the L/H pane, minor wrinkling that is common in this issue, full unmounted o.g., Cat £1900++ (for mounted singles).
1899 Chalk-Surfaced Paper ½d blue-green, 2½d indigo (horizontal) & 6d orange strips of 5 CTO with 'NSW'-in-Concentric-Ovals & with Portuguese 'ULTRAMAR' h/s in blue, a few units mounted otherwise with full unmounted o.g. Superb! [These were the only NSW stamps cancelled before distribution to the UPU. Bill McCredie's pairs sold in 2011 for $670]

1903-08 Re-Issued Diadems Perf 12 3d yellow-green block of 6 (3x2) with both left-hand pairs Imperforate Between SG 327a, large-part o.g. Ex Gary Diffen: sold for £2520. Unrecorded in the ACSC: one other block of 6 - also Ex Gary Diffen, sold for £2760 - and a pair are known.
POSTAGE DUES: 1891-97 4d pale green Perf 10x12 ACSC ND28 (SG D5c), a few trimmed perfs at the base, 'NSW'-in-concentric-ovals cancel, Cat $2500 (£1000). [The ACSC states that only four examples, all used, have been recorded, of which three are in Sydney's Mitchell Library]

POSTAL NOTES: 1890s watermarked 'NEW SOUTH WALES/POSTAL NOTE' 2/- black & pale blue/white (poundage 1d) with 'WILLIAM APPLEGATE GULLICK, GOVERNMENT PRINTER' imprint at the base, 'POONCARIE/JA9/1912/NSW' cds & oval 'THE BANK OF AUSTRALIA/MANNUM' (SA) cachet in violet, characteristic folds & wrinkling but a sound note. A significant new discovery. [The initial issue of 8 denominations between 1/- & 20/- did not include the 2/-. Also, as illustrated by Dave Elsmore, they had 'Charles Potter, Government Printer, Sydney' imprint at the base. Gullick was appointed Government Printer about 1897. Pooncarie is out in the boondocks & no surprise they still had a stock of Colonial notes. Jack Harwood had no NSW items in his exceptional collection of Postal Notes]
