1854 Laureates with Numeral Watermark 3d yellow-green SG 87 magnificent corner single from the lower-right of the sheet, margins just touched - at lower-left - to massive with a fragment of the adjoining unit above, untidy bars cancel of Sydney.
1854-59 Large Diadems 1/- rosy vermilion with Error of Watermark '8' SG 99a marginal example from the top of the sheet, margins good to huge, light bars cancel of Sydney, Cat £180. Superb!

1834 outer endorsed "via Sydney" and "p Apprentice via Mauritius", to the Cape Colony with oval 'POST PAID SHIP LTR/[crown]/1OC1/1834/SYDNEY' d/s in red (month slug reversed) & largely fine '[crown]/GENERAL POST OFFICE/JA21/1835/CAPE OF GOOD HOPE' arrival on the face. Superb! [The unknown origin is tantalising!]
1859 OHMS entire with 'The Treasury...' imprint at L/L & printed notice within, to 'PARRAMATTA' (20mm arrival b/s) with Diadems Imperf 2d - margins close to good - tied by very fine ' H /MY3/1859/SYDNEY - NSW' duplex, light central fold. Ex 'Besancon' III (mixed lot).
1900 (Feb 7) Boer War cover with straight-line 'SS EURYALUS' ship's cachet & endorsed "2nd Vict Contingent/Wray Chaplain/for Col Price CC", to Sydney with CofGH 1d tied by Cape Town squared-circle, Sydney arrival b/s of MR2/00, opened a bit roughly with small repair at upper-right. Rare.
1902 (Apr 8) Boer War cover endorsed "From Trooper G Lewis (P51)/C Company/1st Battalion/1st ACC" with Natal 1d tied by 'NEWCASTLE/NATAL' cds, Durban & Sydney transits & Wollongong arrival b/s of MY10/1902, minor blemishes. [The war ended 31.5.1902]

1909 series of envelopes skilfully hand-illustrated in India ink - a few with highlights in red - all but two also adorned on the reverse, from 'DCB' at 'BYRON BAY' to "Miss E Bright/Sunnybank [one says "Sunnyside"]/Lavender Bay' with the address incorporated into the designs, one with a glowing testimonial for Sunnybank on the reverse, some soiling/aging which thankfully is largely confined to the backs. A very appealing group.

POSTAL STATIONERY:ENVELOPES: Essay with embossed 1d - as used for the first Wrappers - in dull red & 'Specimen.' handstamp below, a few minor blemishes but very fresh.
ENVELOPES - STAMPED TO ORDER: 1911 window-envelope with 'CIVIL SERVICE STORES' imprint on the flap, QV 2d blue obliterated with black overprint - through which the 2d can be clearly seen - & Arms 1d red added, Sydney machine cancel of 3AU-1911, minor blemishes & a small part of the flap missing. A great rairty & the first example we have seen. [Until 30.4.1911, the intra-State rate was 1d, & 2d to Inter-State destinations. This was either printed with the 2d in error or was resubmitted by the user to be re-rated after 1.5.1911 from when the rate to all Australian & Empire destinations was reduced to 1d]
Imperfs with fine to very fine Barred Numerals '9', '20', '22' (rated RR), '24', '26', '30', '45', manuscript "46" (RRRR), superb '47', '59', superb '62', '64', '67' (RR), '71', '72', '78' (RR) & '90', six are on Sydney Views; also Rays '47' (RR), '69', '84', '111' (RR) & superb '167' of Louisa Creek (RRRR); plus Victorian Butterfly '37' on Sydney View 2d; condition of the stamps is variable but most are attractive & several have full margins. A pleasing lot.

Extensive well-developed Numerals collection in eight expensive Lighthouse binders with many early types including Barred Numerals on Sydney Views, Laureates and Diadems (notably 'BN '36' of Braidwood on apparently imperf 8d), some that pre-date name changes & which are generally much scarcer than in the later periods, many dozens of RRR to RRRRR-rated strikes (some of the higher rated items are indistinct or questionable), some minor duplication, condition variable but with countless fine to superb strikes.
