SYDNEY VIEW 2d FRANKING ON "TOO LATE" COVER TO G.B. EX CAMDEN N.S.W.; 7/14 July 1851 EL from "Wivenhoe" but posted from "CRAWLEY" (fine oval crowned d.s. of 14 July on the top flap) to GB "P. [Ship] Emma Eugenia" (a returning convict ship) with 2d Blue Sydney View (margins in places; one corner affixed with a small red wafer) tied (by by indentation and onto the cover) by a smudged Camden "30" Numeral with mainly fine boxed Sydney (?) "TOO LATE" on the front overstruck by a partly fine red "PAID SHIP LETTER/SYDNEY" d.s. (15 July) with "8[d]" (GB incoming Ship Letter rate) charge on the front; it is odd that the rate was 2d inland + 3d outgoing Ship Letter rate, but there is no sign of a second stamp (and insufficient space for it) - presumably this was a P.O. error (or the 3d had been paid in cash - see included photo of similar March 1851 2d-rate cover from Sydney to GB with the extra 1d marked as paid in cash). Unique franking to G.B.?Cross Reference: TOO LATE MARKS (Image)
