'MEXICAN': 27/29 Mar. 1900 envs. (consistent water stains; one with advertisement) to England ex Colenso or Durban franked QV 1d tied by Durban both with very or mainly fine red cachet "RECOVERED FROM//WRECK OF MEXICAN" on front and both additionally tieing the stamps. The 'Mexican' collided with a troop transport ship off Cape Town on 4 Apr. sinking with considerable loss of mails. Uncommon pair.
