Stamp-less folded letter written from Port Louis dated '18th Jan 1844' addressed to Bordeaux cancelled by framed 'Mauritius/Inwd Ship Postage Po/Inland/Steamer' rated '2a+9a=12' in m/s with Mauritius date stamp 'Ja 18', endorsed 'overland - via Marseille' with oval 'India' and rated '24' in m/s with French entry cachet and Bordeaux arrival '4th May 44' on reverse. image 1848-59 QV 1d. orange-vermilion, EARLIEST IMPRESSION, used and cancelled by double-ring numeral, probably "2" of Flacq, perhaps "3" of Souillac (both came in use May/June 1854), with even wide margins all round, a horizontal crease through chignon and hair, and two very small thins in top margin outside design, otherwise fine. A MOST ATTRACTIVE EXAMPLE OF THIS SCARCE STAMP. (SG £18,000)
