CRETE: 1908 locally published two-panel panoramic PPC of 'Retimo Crete' registered to Victoria, unsealed with Cretan 1m tied within by Greek cds of Heraklion, British-pattern but French-language 'Postes Cretoises/CANDIE' R label, very fine 'ENGLISH MAIL TPO' transit & 'SOUTH MELBOURNE' arrival cds. Registered postcards are very scarce. [Candia was renamed Heraklion c.1908. Nice usage with both names]
JAPAN: 1898 very early PPC (photo of geishas in colour on reverse of 1s Postal Card) uprated with 1s green but still shortpaid with unusual 'TO/T' h/s, Japanese-characters cds in red plus English cds of 'TOKIO' & 'YOKOHAMA' (date inverted), Brisbane transit & Sydney arrival cds, Postage Due 1d tied by 'NSW'-in-concentric-ovals cancel, light soiling but very attractive & appealing.
NICARAGUA: 1908 Sequeira Bros PPC ('Saludes de Bluefields') to NSW with 'COSTA/ATLANTICA' Overprints 2c & 3c cancelled in transit at 'NEW ORLEANS/LA', a little soiled. A remarkable origin. Superior to a similar item sold at our auction of 15.12.2015 for $201. [Bluefields, named after the Dutch-Jewish pirate Abraham Blauvelt, is a true melting-pot where English is the principal language]
