image OVAL "TRANSPORT OFFICE..." MARK EX FRANCE; 10 Nov. 1798 EL from "St. Malo" (from the addressee's sister and brother - who was himself about to embark on a privateer - with family news etc.) to "Joseph Cor, French Officer, Prisoner of War, Mill Prison Hospital, Plymouth, Devonshire" with a faint "34/PORT MALO" on the front and a mainly very fine London double oval "TRANSPORT OFFICE/[Crown]/G.R./PRISONERS OF WAR" mark (overstruck by the London 21 Dec. cds) nicely placed on the side-flap. Charged "8[d]" inland rate with prepaid French "11" rate on the flap. Cor had been captured on the privateer 'Le Triton' (on 17 July 1798 by the British frigate Melpomene in the English Channel).
