RARE & VERY EARLY GIANT OVAL-FRAMED "Too late" OF MANCHESTER; 16 June 1802 EL charged "4[d]" from Manchester to Warrington with a partly fine scarce "185/MANCHESTER/16 JUNE 1802" mark on the flap with a matching enormous oval-framed "Too late" mark (W&J M96; only a few known in 1802 or 1804; light filing fold) alongside. This 60mm x 30mm mark is one of the earliest British Too Late marks and it seems that the Postmaster of Manchester was keen to advertise the fact that correspondents were not paying his Late Fees for letters posted just before the mail closed!
