RARE "LOCAL POSTAL GUIDE FOR MANCHESTER" REF. PILLAR-BOXES, POSTAL RATES, MAIL-TIMES, ETC.; Attractive 1 Oct. 1860 booklet (140 x 212 mm) "Published monthly by command of the P.M.G." with bright green covers (repair at top right of front cover not affecting any text & small piece lost from back cover) having almost 'mint' condition contents listing all the POs and pilar-boxes in the area, postal rates (inland & foreign), detailed mail times (local, inland & overseas), regulations, etc. This publication is thought to have started in 1857/8 (when the general PO Guide started) and run to 1868 or later, but we cannot recall ever having seen another example (the British Library only lists editions from 1863 in their collection) and we are not aware of other cities having produced similar guides as early as this.
