1d red Die I Plates A-B interpanneau strip of 5 from the top of the sheet tied by 'SYDNEY/11JA13/ 7 ' to double-rate cover to renowned philatelist Charles Lathrop Pack in New Jersey, vertical fold affects the third unit. A rare franking, in the first fortnight of issue.
1d red Die I with the Watermark Sideways (Pointing to the Left as seen from the Face) ACSC 2ab (SG 2a), exceptional centring, very lightly mounted, Cat $2250 (£1600). Superb!
1d red Die IIA block of 12 (6x2) from the top of the R/H pane with all six upper units affected by Double Perfs on Three Sides ACSC 4b, the last unit [R12] is defective, the gum a little aged but unmounted, Cat $3500+. [Stated to be from Plate K]
5d chestnut ACSC 16 (SG 8), well centred, plus punctured Large 'OS' and Small 'OS' ACSC 16ba & 16bb (SG O7 & O22), the last reperforated at the top, Cat $1550 (£750). Ex Peter O'Rourke & sold for $745 (the reperforating not mentioned). (3)
6d ultramarine with Mangled (Retouched) Second 'E' in 'PENCE' ACSC 17(1)j (SG 9a) with vertical marginal watermark line at right, cds just clear of the variety, Cat $1500 (£1000).
10/- grey & pink ACSC 47 (SG 14) with Broken Tail #47(V)e, Alberto Diena's pencil guarantee on the reverse, lightly mounted, Cat $2750 (£950+, for a normal stamp).
10/- grey & pink ACSC 47 (SG 12), excellent centring, small pencilled numerals on the reverse are of no consequence, very lightly mounted, ACSC Cat $2000 (£950). A lovely stamp.
PUNCTURED LARGE 'OS': 1/- emerald marginal example from the right of the left-hand pane and 5/- grey & chrome (a very fine 'jumbo' stamp) plus Victoria 3d with State 'OS' puncture, all tied to piece from an official envelope with printed 'Postmaster' in red, Cat $1600 as loose stamps. Weep! This would have been one of the great Australian Commonwealth covers, and the pre-eminent Commonwealth/State combination cover.
PUNCTURED 'OS/NSW': 4d orange (shades) complete set of the twelve dies of the perforating head, a few short perfs & #10 has a rounded corner. Very difficult to assemble.
PUNCTURED LARGE 'OS': 5d chestnut ACSC 16ba (SG O7) Plate 1 block of 12 (6x2) from the top of the left-hand pane, unit 1L2 with Oil Tanker off NW Coast of Western Australia #16(1)d, most units well centred, lightly aged gum with a few faint tonespots and with a heavy tonespot affecting the second & third units in the lower row, mounted in the upper margin, the stamps are all unmounted, Cat $12,000+ (£3600++ for mounted singles). A rare block.
PUNCTURED SMALL 'OS': 1d red Die IIA ACSC 4ba (SG O17e) block of 4, unmounted, Cat $900+ (£300+, mounted), for singles. A scarce block. [NB: Large 'OS' does not exist on Die IIA stamps]
