1d red with 'INE PENNY' ACSC 71(4)q Advanced State, well centred, light 'TPO No2/3OC--/NSW' cds, Cat $1500++. Ex Martin Frischauff from the 'Italian Hoard'. [The ACSC states at page 4/82 that examples vary from a small break in the right of the 'O' of 'ONE' to the "obliteration of most of the letter". This is a very late state, and rare thus. Arthur Gray's similar example - with a minor thin - sold at our auction of 30.10.2015 for $3627]

1d red with 'ONC PENNY' as ACSC 71(4)q but with the 'E' Defective' punctured 'T', very well centred, Hobart machine datehead of 12.2.17. Unlisted in the ACSC. Ex Martin Frischauff from the 'Italian Hoard'. [Like the 'CNE' varieties, this is an ink-clogging flaw that is much scarcer than the better-known 'CNE']
1d pinkish carmine ('aniline') Rough Paper ACSC 72C (G62½), unmounted, Cat $175 for the normal shade, Scott Starling Certificate (2020) states "a fine and fresh example of a rarer sub-shade".
1d violet block of 12 (6x2) from the base of the L/H pane, all units in the lower row with Grossly Misplaced Perforations, a few tonespots. A striking error that is unrecorded in this issue.
1½d red horizontal strip of 6 from the top of the sheet with aberrant strike of the comb perforator in the top margin on a slight diagonal resulting in the right-hand unit having partial Double Perforations at Top, hinge remainders in margin only, stamps unmounted.
1½d red Electro 14 block of 8 with Harrison imprint ('N' over 'MP', stop after 'PRINTER', unit 14R55 with irregular bottom frame) ACSC 89(14)z, minor perf separation, three top units with hinge remainders, the others unmounted, Cat $675 for block of 4.
1½d red Electro 15 with variety Cracked Electro from Kangaroo's Knee to King's Neck ACSC 89(15)f [position R10; early state with crack not yet extending to 'E' of 'POSTAGE'], light machine cancel largely clear of variety, Cat $550.
1½d red Electro 15 punctured 'OS' rejoined pair [R39-40] the left-hand unit with variety White Flaws on 'ST' of 'AUSTRALIA' and the right-hand unit with variety Moustache Flaw plus Cracked Electro through 'E' of 'POSTAGE' ACSC 89(15)ha & ia, Melbourne cds of 15MY25 partly obscuring 'E', perforation issues, Cat $835+.
1½d red Electro 16 block of 8 with partial Harrison imprint (second line mostly trimmed off; unit 16R56 with variety Flaw on Last 'E' of 'THREE') ACSC 89(16)z, hinge remainders on top units and margin, lower units unmounted, Cat $675 for block of 4. The lower margin shows two sets of staple holes which suggest that this item was originally included in a booklet; this in turn would account for the trimmed margin.
1½d scarlet Electro 17 Major Cracked Electro above Value Tablet at R ACSC 89(17)f, Sydney cancel clear of the variety, Cat $375. One of the most prominent cracked electros.
1½d red Electro 17 with variety Cracked Electro through Kangaroo's Feet ACSC 89(17)u [position R29], light cds cancel clear of variety, tiny surface mark in top left corner, Cat $400.
1½d red Electro 17 block of 8 with Harrison imprint (unit 17R49 with variety Large White Flaw on King's Neck) ACSC 89(17)z, hinge remainders on top units and margin, lower units unmounted, Cat $625 for block of 4.
1½d red Electro 21 block of 8 with Harrison imprint ('N' over 'M' setting without stop; unit 21R55 with variety White Flaw on Emu's Body but without Blurred Flaw Through 'STR' of 'AUSTRALIA') ACSC 89(21)z, top left & right units mounted, the others - including the imprint block of 4 - unmounted, Cat $675 for a mounted block of 4. The ACSC records the White Flaw on Emu's Body as 'State II' only existing on no-imprint blocks; this item shows the flaw to exist on Harrison imprints and pre-dates the Flaw Through 'STR'. [See article by Torsten Weller in the ACCCofNSW 'Bulletin' of March 2021]
1½d red Electro 21 block of 4 with Harrison imprint ('N' over 'M' setting without stop; unit 21R55 with varieties Blurred Flaw Through 'STR' of 'AUSTRALIA' and White Flaw on Emu's Body; unit 21R49 with Breaks in Bottom & Right Frames) ACSC 89(21)z, unmounted, Cat $675 for a mounted block. The ACSC records the White Flaw on Emu's Body as 'State II' only existing on no-imprint blocks; this item shows the flaw to exist on Harrison imprints. See also previous lot which shows that the Emu flaw in fact pre-dates the 'STR' flaw. [See article by Torsten Weller in the ACCCofNSW 'Bulletin' of March 2021]
1½d red Electro 23 with variety Cracked Electro from Emu's Feet to King's Neck (advanced state with large white flaw alongside 'E' of 'POSTAGE')ACSC 89(23)r, light machine cancel well clear of variety, Cat $300.
1½d red Electro 23 punctured 'OS' pair from the top of the lower sheet with full Harrison Imprint at Top in the intersheet margin due to the sheets not being guillotined as intended, the intersheet margin also punctured, the left unit with Dark Band through Lower Design & Short Base of Final 'E' of 'PENCE' varieties [23L6], a couple of aging marks, heavily hinged with some perforations re-inforced. Unlisted in the ACSC.
1½d red Electro 23 block of 4 with Harrison imprint ('N' over 'M' setting without stop; unit 23L54 with Spur on Top of '1' in Left Value Tablet and unit 23L60 with White Flaw in King's Beard but without unit 23R49 White Scratch Through Left Wattles variety) ACSC 89(23)z, slightly fluffy perfs & very minor re-inforced perf separation at base, top units with minor hinge remainder, lower units unmounted, Cat $675. Apparently an early state before the damage to unit 23R49 occurred.
1½d red Electro 23 punctured 'OS' horizontal strip of 7 including Harrison imprint pair ('N' over 'M' setting without stop; unit 23L60 with variety White Flaw in King's Beard) ACSC 89(23)z, the stamps poorly perforated cutting into the top & left of the designs with two additional aberrant strikes of the comb perforator (one diagonal) in the lower margin, perforations heavily re-inforced with hinges, Cat $675 for mounted imprint block of 4. A technically interesting piece being a good example of poorly-produced stamps being set aside for official use rather than issued for sale to the public.
1½d red Electro 23 block of 8 with No Imprint (Mullett printings; unit 23R49 with variety White Scratch Through Left Wattles) ACSC 89(23)za, unmounted, Cat $400 for a mounted block of 4.
1½d red Electros 25-28 block of 6 [L49-51/L55-57] from the lower-left corner of the sheet with Double Perforations ACSC 89b affecting all units caused by a second strike of the comb which has produced an aberrant second row of vertical perforations through the left-hand value tablets of the lower three units and a doubling of the horizontal perforations between the upper & lower units, the lower left unit with White Flaw in Wattles & Scratch Through Right '1' varieties, the horizontal perforations sensibly re-inforced between the right-hand units, minor aging marks, unused with gum washed off causing some ink diffusion, Cat $600+ for mounted mint. A visually most striking error.
1½d red Electro 25 block of 8 with Mullett imprint (unit 25L60 with variety Break in Frame under Second 'E' of 'PENCE') ACSC 89(25)z, lower margin apparently slightly trimmed but with full imprint present, unmounted, Cat $475 for mounted block of 4.
1½d red Electro 26 block of 8 with Mullett imprint (unit 26L60 with Frame Break below 'FP' of 'HALFPENCE', 26R55 with Notch in Bottom Frame and unit 26R56 with 'FP' of 'HALFPENCE' Joined) ACSC 89(26)z, four units with light hinge remainders, the others unmounted, Cat $475 for mounted block of 4.
1½d red Electro 26 block of 4 with Mullett imprint (unit 26L60 with Frame Break below 'FP' of 'HALFPENCE' and unit 26R55 with Notch in Bottom Frame) ACSC 89(26)z, three strikes of 'WAVERLEY/--DE26/NSW' cds, Cat $475 for mounted mint block of 4. Rare Commercially used multiple.
